Palworld, a PvE-focused game, is facing an unusual amount of cheating, despite its customizable settings that allow players to adjust difficulty. This has led to connectivity issues on official servers, affecting normal gameplay. To combat this, Pocketpair, the game’s developer, is implementing several measures:
Firstly, they will introduce a “player list” function in two weeks, which will help identify cheaters and facilitate their suspension. Additionally, an external anti-cheating solution will be introduced, although the specific system has not been disclosed. This feature will be optional on community, co-op, and single-player servers.
Pocketpair has also pledged to take further comprehensive steps to prevent cheating. Despite their daily efforts to address the issue, the developer acknowledges their challenges, citing a shortage of staff for a game of this scale. They are actively hiring to bolster their team.
The prevalence of cheating in Palworld is puzzling, considering its lack of PvP content and the ability to adjust settings for an easier experience. Nevertheless, the impact on legitimate players is severe, as cheating affects server connections.
Despite a 75% decline from its peak, Palworld continues to maintain approximately 500,000 concurrent players on weekdays, consistently ranking among the top 5-10 games on Steam. In comparison, the newly released Helldivers 2, while garnering attention, peaks at only 250,000 concurrent players. However, Helldivers 2’s momentum may increase over the weekend.
The future of Palworld remains uncertain. While its current player base is substantial and appears to be stabilizing, the game’s long-term success is yet to be determined. As the year progresses, it will be interesting to see if Palworld remains a popular choice among gamers.
