2025 Ram 1500 : Turbo Engine, Tungsten Trim Revamp

Ram 1500 in new Tungsten premium trim

Stellantis, the automotive giant behind Ram trucks, is gearing up for a transformative year with the 2025 Ram 1500. As one of the top-selling vehicles in the U.S., the Ram 1500 is set to receive a significant overhaul, including a new drivetrain, premium trim, plug-in hybrid, and full electric model.

A New Powertrain Approach The 2025 Ram 1500 is ditching the iconic Hemi V8 engine in favor of a cutting-edge 3.0-liter, inline 6-cylinder engine. This move aims to meet rising customer expectations and stringent fuel efficiency and CO2 regulations. Unlike its primary competitors, the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500, which offer V6 engines, the new Ram 1500 features an inline 6 topped with two turbochargers. Known as the “Hurricane” engine, this setup promises a balance of power and efficiency, with two turbochargers each feeding three cylinders to minimize lag and deliver quick, smooth power across the RPM range.

Power and Performance The standard version of the Hurricane engine churns out an impressive 420 horsepower and 468 pound-feet of torque, while the high-output variant delivers a staggering 540 hp and 521 lb-ft of torque. These figures outshine the outgoing Hemi V8, which produced 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. Alongside the new inline 6, the 2025 Ram 1500 retains the base 3.6-liter V6 engine, offering 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. All engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, providing smooth power delivery to either the rear wheels or all four wheels in 4×4 models.

Enhanced Efficiency and Driving Dynamics The 2025 Ram 1500 boasts improved fuel efficiency, thanks to the inline 6’s design, high-pressure direct fuel injection, low-friction cylinder bore coating, and an available air suspension that lowers the truck at highway speeds. Although EPA-rated fuel economy figures are not yet available, the outgoing Ram 1500 achieved between 19 and 23 mpg, depending on the configuration. The 2025 Ram will offer three rear axle ratios—3.21, 3.55, or 3.92—to further enhance efficiency and performance.

Revamped Styling and Advanced Features The 2025 Ram 1500 sports refreshed styling, with a taller grille that extends into the bumper, a larger front “RAM” badge, and sleek LED headlights and taillights. The new model also introduces a luxurious Tungsten trim, featuring body-colored accents, LED projector headlights, unique 22-inch wheels, and premium leather seats with heating and ventilation. Inside, the Tungsten trim offers a new 14.5-inch central touchscreen, a segment-first 10.25-inch passenger side touchscreen, and a 23-speaker, 1,228-watt Klipsch audio system.

Advanced Technology and Safety The 2025 Ram 1500 comes equipped with advanced driver-assist technologies, including smart cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and a digital rearview mirror. New touch-capacitive technology monitors the driver’s hand on the steering wheel, while cameras, exterior sensors, and GPS monitoring enhance safety and driving dynamics. These features enable the 2025 Ram 1500 to operate in a fully hands-free highway driving mode for extended periods.

Future Innovations Looking ahead, Ram has exciting plans for additional models, including a performance-oriented RHO with a 540-horsepower version of the Hurricane engine, a plug-in hybrid “Ramcharger” with over 140 miles of electric range, and the fully electric REV (Ram Electric Vehicle). These models are expected to further expand Ram’s lineup and offer customers more options in the evolving automotive landscape.

The 2025 Ram 1500 is expected to see a modest price increase of about $2,500 compared to the 2024 models, reflecting the significant improvements and advancements in the new model year. With its innovative powertrain, refreshed styling, advanced technology, and future-focused lineup, the 2025 Ram 1500 is poised to continue its success as a top-selling vehicle in the U.S.
