Putin Warns Iran Against Escalation After Israel Attack

Russia Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has cautioned Iran against escalating tensions further after its recent attack on Israel, which came in response to an airstrike on its embassy in Syria. Putin emphasized the need for all parties to exercise restraint to avoid a potentially disastrous escalation in the region. In a phone call with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Putin expressed hope for a peaceful resolution and urged for measures to prevent a new round of confrontation.

During the call, Raisi defended Iran’s actions, describing the attacks on Israel as forced and limited, with no intention of further escalation. Both Russia and Iran are advocating for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, citing it as the underlying cause of conflict in the Middle East.

The recent tensions stem from an Israeli airstrike on the Iranian embassy in Syria, which resulted in the death of a top Iranian commander and six others. While Israel has not publicly acknowledged its role in the airstrike, Iran has vowed revenge, leading to heightened tensions between the two countries.

The situation remains volatile, with Israel expected to respond to Iran’s missile attacks. International leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, have called for restraint to prevent further escalation.
