Ram 1500 RHO: A Worthy Successor to the TRX

2025 Ram 1500 RHO

The Ram 1500 RHO marks a significant milestone in Ram’s lineup, especially following the success of the Ram 1500 TRX. In 2020, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles unveiled the Hellcat, a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that became a symbol of power and performance. Over the next eight years, the Hellcat engine found its way into various platforms, including the Ram 1500 TRX, a high-performance off-road truck that captivated enthusiasts with its wide-body design and impressive speed.

However, the end of 2023 brought the end of Hellcat production, signaling the conclusion of the TRX’s three-year run. With the 2025 Ram 1500 receiving a mid-cycle refresh, the stage was set for a new chapter in Ram’s off-road lineup. The Ram 1500 RHO emerges as a worthy successor to the TRX, retaining many of the features that made its predecessor special, albeit with some notable changes.

One of the most significant changes is under the hood, where the RHO ditches the V8 in favor of the high-output version of the 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged Hurricane inline-six-cylinder engine. While the Hurricane engine may not match the raw power of the Hellcat, it still delivers an impressive 540 horsepower and 521 lb-ft of torque, making it a formidable contender in the off-road segment.

Visually, the RHO bears a striking resemblance to the TRX, with its wide fenders, scooped hood, and aggressive stance. However, the front fascia has been updated to align with the refreshed Ram lineup, giving the RHO a more modern and cohesive look.

Inside, the RHO boasts a range of upgrades, including a larger 14.5-inch portrait center touchscreen and a passenger touchscreen for interactive infotainment. The driver is treated to a 12.3-inch digital cluster display and a heads-up display, along with the option for hands-free driving assistance on pre-mapped highways.

The RHO also comes equipped with pre-wired auxiliary switches for additional accessories and a trailer reverse steer control knob for easier maneuvering while towing. Underneath, the RHO features a suspension system similar to the TRX, albeit with adjustments to account for the smaller engine and reduced weight.

Despite the lower power output compared to the TRX, the RHO still delivers impressive performance, with a 0-60 mph time of 4.6 seconds and increased towing and payload capabilities.

In conclusion, while the Ram 1500 RHO may not be a direct replacement for the TRX, it represents a new chapter in Ram’s off-road lineup, offering a compelling alternative for enthusiasts looking for performance and capability at a more accessible price point. With the promise of electrification on the horizon, the future looks bright for Ram’s sport truck lineup.
