Following a wave of backlash, Battlestate Games has issued a comprehensive update regarding its popular title, Escape From Tarkov. The controversy stems from the recent introduction of the $250 Unheard Edition of the game, which offered exclusive access to a PvE game mode and a range of other benefits. However, this move sparked outrage among players, particularly those who had previously purchased the $150 Edge of Darkness (EoD) edition.
Players who had invested in the EoD edition were promised all future DLC for free but were informed that they would not receive access to the new PvE mode. This decision prompted widespread criticism and forced Battlestate Games to reconsider its stance.
In response to the backlash, Battlestate Games has now announced a series of concessions for EoD owners. Firstly, EoD owners will now be granted access to the PvE mode, addressing one of the key points of contention. Additionally, EoD owners will receive a range of in-game benefits, including faster insurance returns, increased trader limits, and enhanced PMC karma and charisma skill levels. They will also gain access to a special stimulant craft and an exclusive quest line, along with unique in-game items such as a dog tag, armband, and clothing.
However, one aspect of the update has raised eyebrows among the community. A new item will allow players to call in a BTR to their location on the map, leading some players to argue that this item should be restricted to the PvE mode to avoid imbalance.
Players with the Standard, Prepare to Escape, or Left Behind editions of the game will also receive some benefits. These include an increased stash size and the option to purchase the PvE game mode separately.
For players who have already purchased the Unheard Edition at full price, Battlestate Games has offered a $50 coupon to use on future Escape From Tarkov purchases. Additionally, they will gain access to the Escape From Tarkov Arena, a feature that promises unique gameplay experiences.
In an effort to address concerns about unfair advantages in the PvE mode, Battlestate Games has announced that the ping limit for playing PvE will be removed. This decision is based on the belief that any advantage gained from lower ping would be nullified by the AI enemies in the game mode.
Overall, Battlestate Games’ response to the backlash has been met with a mixed reception. While many players are pleased with the additional benefits and access to the PvE mode for EoD owners, others remain skeptical about the potential impact of certain features on gameplay balance.
