“Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire” is set to make its digital streaming debut this month, offering audiences a chance to witness the epic clash between two of cinema’s most iconic monsters from the comfort of their homes.
As the second-highest-grossing film of 2024 thus far, “Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire” has captured the attention of moviegoers worldwide. Directed by Adam Wingard and featuring a talented ensemble cast including Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, and Dan Stevens, the film serves as the fifth installment in Legendary Pictures’ Monsterverse and a direct sequel to 2021’s “Godzilla vs. Kong.”
The plot of “Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire” revolves around the resurgence of the ancient rivalry between Godzilla and Kong, who are forced to put aside their differences and join forces to combat a new, formidable threat: the Skar King, a colossal creature bearing a striking resemblance to Kong. The movie not only promises adrenaline-pumping action but also delves deeper into the origins and histories of these iconic creatures, offering audiences a more profound understanding of their respective worlds, including the enigmatic Skull Island.
Director Adam Wingard was particularly inspired by the audience’s enthusiastic response to the previous installment, “Godzilla vs. Kong,” which grossed over $470 million at the global box office despite being released during the pandemic. Wingard expressed his excitement at the prospect of further exploring the dynamic between Godzilla and Kong, stating, “As soon as the [last] movie came out and the audiences started to see it, I was like, ‘You just can’t separate these two guys again.’ It’s too exciting having them in one movie.”
The success of “Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire” has already solidified its place in cinematic history, surpassing $547 million at the worldwide box office and overtaking the 2014 film “Godzilla” in terms of box office earnings during its sixth weekend in theaters.
For fans eagerly anticipating its digital release, “Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire” will be available for streaming starting May 14 on popular platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, YouTube, and Fandango at Home. Viewers will have the option to purchase the film for $24.99 or rent it for $19.99. Additionally, the movie is scheduled to debut on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD formats on June 11, 2024.
