Android 15 Update Improves Camera Quality for Third-Party Apps

Google’s upcoming Android 15 update is set to bring a significant boost to camera quality on Android smartphones. This update includes a new software upgrade that will grant third-party apps like Instagram, Snapchat, and Adobe Lightroom access to enhanced camera features, potentially revolutionizing video recording capabilities on these devices.

One of the key features of this update is the introduction of the Eyes Free videography Camera2 extension. This extension allows third-party apps to lock onto and stabilize selected objects in view, leading to smoother and more stable video recordings. Android Authority reports that this feature could be included in compatible smartphones as part of the Android 15 update.

While third-party photography apps such as Adobe Lightroom and MotionCam Pro can offer advanced features and quality improvements to Android-based cameras, they often cannot access the smartphone’s built-in camera capabilities fully. This limitation can result in a lack of access to features like portrait mode effects, HDR image capture, and Night Mode. However, with the introduction of the Eyes Free videography extension, third-party camera apps will be able to access video capabilities for the first time, expanding their functionality significantly.

Currently, Camera2 supports only photos, but with the new Eyes Free videography extension, third-party camera apps will gain access to video capabilities as well. This extension is described as aiming to lock and stabilize a given region or object of interest, enhancing the quality of video recordings.

Additionally, Google is implementing a new “allow camera software extensions” switch, which will enable apps to access these features even on smartphones that do not explicitly support Camera2 extensions. This change could result in more feature-rich camera apps with higher-quality photo and video output on a broader range of Android smartphones.

In conclusion, Google’s Android 15 update promises to revolutionize camera capabilities on Android smartphones, offering users a more diverse and feature-rich experience when capturing photos and videos.
