Frontline LE60: V8-Powered MGB GT Restomod Review

MGB

As the Euromillions jackpot peaks at an astounding £130 million ($163 million), dreams of lavish spending scenarios flood the minds of hopeful ticket holders. While many would splurge on exotic supercars, my fantasy veers in a different direction—I envision a garage adorned with meticulously restored classic cars, each modernized for optimal comfort and reliability.

Restomods, like Frontline’s LE60, embody this dream perfectly. The LE60, a masterpiece based on a 1970 MGB GT, boasts a 4.8-liter Rover V8 engine that roars to life with 380 horsepower, propelling the car from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.6 seconds. Among its modern conveniences are heated seats, remote-controlled central locking, electric windows, LED lighting, and a premium sound system complete with Bluetooth connectivity.

Inside, the cabin is a blend of classic charm and modern functionality. The rich brown leather upholstery exudes elegance, complemented by a stunning wooden steering wheel from Nardi. While the dashboard and driver controls maintain the original MGB GT look, some toggle switches now control the heated seats, and the seemingly vintage winders are actually one-touch controls for the new electric windows, all made from sleek aluminum.

Externally, the LE60 retains the timeless appeal of the classic MGB GT but receives several enhancements. Wider wheels and bigger tires improve grip and handling, while beefier brakes front and rear ensure optimal stopping power. The upgraded suspension with new dampers and a wider track enhances stability and cornering performance. Additionally, the removal of the chrome bumpers gives the LE60 a sleeker, more modern appearance.

What truly sets the LE60 apart is its ability to seamlessly blend in as a perfectly preserved classic car while offering the modern comforts and performance of a new vehicle. During my time with the LE60, it garnered admiration not for its newness but for its timeless aesthetic and impeccable craftsmanship.

The driving experience in the LE60 is nothing short of exhilarating. Whether navigating the bustling streets of central London, cruising along the open highway, or tackling winding country lanes, the LE60 delivers a driving experience that combines classic charm with modern convenience.

While the price tag of around $250,000 may seem steep, the joy and confidence it offers on the road are truly priceless. As I drove through the early morning streets of London, accompanied by the symphony of the V8 engine and the quiet hum of the city, I couldn’t help but appreciate the unique experience the LE60 provides.

In conclusion, the Frontline LE60 is a masterpiece that seamlessly combines classic aesthetics with modern upgrades, offering a driving experience that bridges the gap between the old and the new. If you’re in the market for a classic car with a modern twist, the LE60 should undoubtedly be at the top of your list.
