Trump’s Sleepiness in Hush Money Trial: Key Moments

Trump in Hush money trial

Former President Donald Trump’s behavior in his hush money trial, particularly his apparent moments of drowsiness, has drawn significant attention. During the trial, which revolves around payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels, Trump has been observed exhibiting signs of sleepiness on multiple occasions. These instances have occurred during crucial phases of the trial, such as jury selection and witness testimony.

On April 15, the first day of jury selection, reporters noted Trump appearing to doze off, leaning back in his chair with his eyes closed before abruptly waking up. The following day, April 16, similar behavior was observed as Trump dropped his head inside the courtroom, keeping his eyes closed before jerking his head upright, only to droop it again. This pattern continued on April 19, the final day of jury selection, with Trump’s eyes reportedly closed for extended periods.

As the trial progressed, Trump’s struggle to stay awake became more apparent. On April 22, just before opening statements began, he seemed to be “struggling to stay awake,” according to reports, but appeared to wake up after a nudge from his attorney. During witness testimony on April 30, Trump appeared to nod off for “significant portions,” while also occasionally jerking his head up in a way consistent with sleeping.

The trend continued into May. On May 9, as Stormy Daniels took the witness stand for the second day, Trump’s eyes remained closed for several minutes. He later dozed “on and off” as legal teams debated a mistrial. The most recent instance was on May 13, during Michael Cohen’s testimony, when Trump’s eyes were reported to be closed at various points, with some sources stating he was “asleep” during the trial’s afternoon session.

Despite these observations, Trump has vehemently denied sleeping during the trial. In a post on Truth Social, he stated that he had simply closed his eyes at times, reiterating his criticism of the trial as a “witch hunt.” He emphasized that he listens “intensely and take[s] it ALL in!!!”

Cohen’s testimony has been a focal point of the trial, with him detailing his involvement in payments made to silence negative stories about Trump. He also testified about Trump’s knowledge of these payments and his use of coercion and intimidation tactics. Daniels’ earlier testimony was also significant, as she denied being incentivized by the hush money and expressed her desire to control the narrative surrounding her alleged affair with Trump.

Overall, Trump’s moments of apparent drowsiness have provided a dramatic backdrop to the legal proceedings, adding a layer of intrigue to an already high-profile trial.
