Stellantis is making significant strides towards an electric future, starting with the introduction of the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S, its first electric vehicle (EV) for North America. Although the European side of Stellantis had already embraced electric models, North American brands had only the Chrysler Pacifica PHEV. This will change rapidly with the debut of the Wagoneer S.
While not Jeep’s first EV—that title goes to the Europe-only Avenger—the Wagoneer S will be the first electric Jeep available globally. It’s one of the first vehicles based on Stellantis’ new STLA Large platform, designed for flexibility with battery electric, plug-in hybrid, and internal combustion variants. Other models on this platform include the Charger Daytona and Jeep Recon.
Previewed in September 2022, the Wagoneer S has not been showcased physically until recently, with media getting a glimpse earlier this year. This two-row SUV is similar in size to the Grand Cherokee but offers a more streamlined design and advanced features.
The Wagoneer S Launch Edition will feature dual electric motors and a 100.5-kWh lithium-ion battery, providing a combined output of 600 horsepower and 617 lb-ft of torque. This makes it competitive with luxury EVs like the BMW iX M60 and Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV but at a significantly lower price point. Jeep claims the Wagoneer S can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and achieve a range of 300 miles per charge.
Equipped with a 400V electrical architecture, the Wagoneer S supports DC fast charging, reaching 20-80% in 23 minutes. Buyers of the Launch Edition will also receive a home charger or public charging credits. The SUV features advanced suspension and braking systems, a sleek aerodynamic design, and a high-tech cabin with multiple screens and a premium audio system.
The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S will be available at dealerships in fall 2024, starting at $71,995, and will qualify for a $7,500 federal tax credit due to its North American production and locally sourced battery. This marks a significant step in Jeep’s electrification journey, following the success of its plug-in hybrid models.
