Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase made a thunderous impact at the 2024 not-E3 event, unveiling a plethora of captivating titles and new console variants slated for release during Holiday 2024. Among the standout games were Gears of War: E-Day, Fable, and the enthralling South of Midnight, showcasing Microsoft’s unwavering commitment to creative development.
The showcase wasn’t just about the software; it also introduced three new Xbox console variants. The first is the Robot White Xbox Series S, boasting 1TB of internal storage and priced at $349.99, which mirrors last year’s Carbon Black S console. However, with Microsoft hinting at the potential phase-out of the Carbon Black version, the Robot White edition might be positioned as its successor.
The Xbox Series S, while more affordable, lacks the specs and features of the Series X. It maxes out at a 1440p resolution and omits a physical disc drive. Nevertheless, it remains a solid choice for budget-conscious gamers looking for a high-quality gaming experience.
Also joining the lineup is the new all-digital 1TB Xbox Series X, also in Robot White and priced at $449.99. Notable for its absence of a disc drive, this version symbolizes Microsoft’s decisive step towards a disc-less future.
However, stealing the spotlight is the 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition Xbox Series X. Priced at $599.99, it boasts double the SSD storage of a typical Series X console and features a stunning celestial design. The machine’s shell resembles the night sky infused with Xbox Velocity Green, a design choice that extends to its celestial d-pad on the matching black controller. The special green tone also accents the back of the gamepad and the console’s circular stand, creating a visually striking aesthetic.
While the $600 price tag may seem steep, the Galaxy Black Series X offers a unique aesthetic and performance that rivals a gaming PC, making it a highly desirable choice for gaming enthusiasts.
