Ralph Lauren Debuts Team USA’s Paris 2024 Uniforms

USA's Uniforms For Paris 2024

Ralph Lauren revealed the opening and closing ceremony uniforms for Team USA athletes for the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics on Tuesday, blending modern American style with classic designs. A notable highlight is the brand’s introduction of a “100% recycled” Polo shirt, a first for Ralph Lauren.

As the official outfitter for Team USA, Ralph Lauren continues its partnership for the ninth consecutive Olympics since 2008, providing uniforms for both opening and closing ceremonies. The opening ceremony on July 26 will feature Team USA athletes in single-breasted navy wool blazers with red and white tipping, blue-and-white striped oxford shirts, tapered jeans, and classic suede buck shoes, as per the company’s statement.

The closing ceremony on August 11 will see athletes wearing a moto-style jacket with multiple patches, white jeans, and a classic striped Polo shirt. Paralympic swimmer Jamal Hill described this outfit as a blend of “cowboy tuxedo” and Formula 1 style, while kiteboarder Daniela Moroz called it “unique and cool,” as reported by USA Today. The flag bearers for the ceremony parades will don distinct versions of these looks in alternate colorways to stand out, according to CNN.

The Paris 2024 collection also includes a “Villagewear” line for athletes to wear outside official ceremonies. This collection features sporty varsity jackets, rugby shirts, color-blocked tees, and a classic American flag sweater, all made from materials such as recycled polyester and USA-grown Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) certified wool.

Ralph Lauren has been crafting uniforms for Team USA since the 2008 Beijing Olympics. For the Paris 2024 Olympics, the brand aimed to create outfits inspired by the dynamic and vibrant host city of Paris, while also representing American culture and the spirit of Team USA with a red, white, and blue palette. Despite facing criticisms for the exclusivity and lack of diversity in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics uniforms, which some viewers compared to “Karens,” Ralph Lauren upheld its traditional approach. David Lauren, the chief branding and innovation officer of Ralph Lauren, emphasized the goal of making athletes look like ambassadors with a formal yet comfortable style, as noted in an interview with the New York Times.

The Paris 2024 collection also includes the “Villagewear” range, designed for athletes to wear in the Athletes’ Village. This collection, named after the Athletes’ Village, includes jackets, rugby shirts, sweaters, and tees. The brand’s statement highlighted the introduction of its first-ever 100% recycled cotton Polo shirt.

In summary, Ralph Lauren’s uniforms for the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics blend modern American style with classic design elements, focusing on sustainability and the representation of American culture. The new collection maintains Ralph Lauren’s commitment to providing stylish and functional attire for Team USA athletes.
