How to Solo Defeat the Dead Bride in ‘The First Descendant’

The First Descendant

In ‘The First Descendant,’ facing off against the Colossi offers some of the most intriguing challenges in the game. Unlike the majority of encounters that rely on the standard strategy of shooting three immunity balls over enemies’ heads, these battles can involve unique mechanics and tactics. Among these, the Dead Bride, a Level 41 Colossus, stands out as a particularly tough opponent, even for players who have reached the maximum Level 40. After struggling through several attempts, I finally managed to defeat her and would like to share some crucial tips that can help you conquer this formidable foe.

The most critical piece of advice for defeating the Dead Bride is to tackle her solo. While a well-coordinated team might seem like the ideal solution, random matchmaking often fails to deliver the necessary synergy. Soloing the Dead Bride offers a significant advantage because it reduces her health scaling dramatically, making her enormous shield less intimidating. Despite this, expect some challenging moments and possible failures, but with persistence, you can triumph. My personal success came after several attempts, and it’s worth noting that going solo was instrumental in my victory.

The Dead Bride, as a Chill Colossus, has a pronounced weakness to fire damage. This is especially advantageous if you’re playing as Lepic, who specializes in fire. However, if you’re using a character like Viessa, who lacks fire-based abilities, you’ll need to adapt. For instance, I defeated the Dead Bride using Freyna, despite her partial resistance to poison. To compensate, equip your weapons with Fire mods to inflict additional fire damage. My primary setup included a Beam Rifle combined with a sniper rifle for significant weak spot damage. Though I also had Thunder Cage, I found it less useful in this fight.

To mitigate the Dead Bride’s Chill attacks, it’s advisable to equip and upgrade Chill Resist mods. I had around 600 Chill resistance, though the fight suggests aiming for 1,600. Despite not reaching the recommended level, my resistance was sufficient to withstand her attacks. You’ll endure some damage, but the increased resistance will make a noticeable difference in your survivability.

The Dead Bride’s missile attacks can penetrate cover and deal substantial damage. During these attacks, focus on dodging rather than trying to fight back. Avoiding damage is your priority until the missile barrage concludes.

The Icicle attacks from the Dead Bride can be painful, but they offer an opportunity for counterattacks. You can sidestep while continuing to fire, allowing you to inflict damage with relative ease. Use this chance to strike back effectively.

The Kingfishers, small mob enemies that appear during the fight, can overwhelm you if not dealt with promptly. Regularly clearing them out will prevent them from becoming a nuisance and will ensure a steady supply of health, ammo, and MP.

When the Dead Bride becomes immune, she creates a massive cold AoE that you must escape quickly. Cold resistance is crucial during this phase. Characters with high mobility, like Bunny, can easily dodge this attack, but all classes can use grapple hooks to minimize damage. Although you can disrupt this phase by targeting weak point cylinders on her freeze arm, I never succeeded in halting it and instead focused on surviving until it ended.

Remember that the Dead Bride’s shield constitutes the bulk of her health. Once you manage to break through it, her actual health will deplete rapidly. Don’t be discouraged if it seems like you’re falling behind in damage. Stay focused and persistent, as soloing the Dead Bride, despite the challenges, is achievable. Teammates can sometimes complicate the fight, so going solo might ultimately be the best approach. Good luck, and may your battles be victorious!
