‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Eyes $1 Billion After Second Weekend Win

Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine, the latest addition to the Marvel Universe, has proven its staying power by dominating the box office for a second consecutive weekend. The film achieved the eighth-biggest second weekend ever and the fifth-largest second weekend for a Marvel movie, according to various sources. It is now on track to surpass $1 billion in global sales.

In its second weekend, Deadpool & Wolverine earned an impressive $97 million domestically, nearly half of its $211 million debut weekend gross. This brings its total U.S. earnings to just below $400 million. Internationally, the film continued to perform strongly, adding $110.5 million to its overseas total, which now stands at $428.5 million. This brings its worldwide gross to an estimated $824.1 million within just 10 days of release.

In second place at the domestic box office was Twisters, which earned $22.7 million in its third weekend, according to Box Office Mojo. The third spot went to M. Night Shyamalan’s new thriller, Trap, which had a $15.6 million opening weekend, meeting industry expectations. Animated sequels filled the fourth and fifth positions this weekend, with Despicable Me 4 bringing in an estimated $11.3 million and Inside Out 2 generating $6.7 million.

In just its first two weekends, Deadpool & Wolverine has already outgrossed both previous Deadpool films both domestically and globally. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the original Deadpool earned $363.1 million domestically and $782.6 million worldwide, while Deadpool 2 brought in $324.6 million domestically and $785.9 million globally. The film has also set a new record, surpassing Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ to become the highest-grossing rated-R movie domestically. Passion of the Christ previously held the record with $370.8 million in domestic earnings, according to BoxOfficeMojo.

Keep an eye on Deadpool & Wolverine as it is expected to cross the $1 billion mark in the coming days.
