Fortnite Unveils New Doctor Doom Marvel Map

New Map

Here’s an early look at Fortnite’s upcoming Marvel map, centered around Doctor Doom, marking the second Marvel-themed season for the popular battle royale game. The initial teaser provides a glimpse of the new map, partially obscured by a green, Doom-themed fog, as shown in the image above.

This sneak peek follows the release of the official Doctor Doom trailer for the season, set to launch on August 16. The trailer showcases a variety of Marvel heroes, including new and returning characters. Among those featured are Jonesy Captain America, Peely Wolverine, and Sabertooth Meowscles. These characters suggest that the battle pass will include several Fortnite-based Marvel variants, rather than exclusively Marvel characters. Doctor Doom, who was previously introduced as a skin, is set to appear in a new variation this season.

In addition to the variants already mentioned, other characters such as Emma Frost, Shuri, and Black Panther make an appearance. There is also an X-Men ’97-style bundle featuring ‘90s versions of Colossus, Cyclops, and Jubilee. Gwenpool, War Machine, and Mysterio are also part of the lineup. The diversity of skins reflects the extensive range of Marvel characters that have been integrated into the game over the years, making it one of the most significant collaborations with a single intellectual property.

Much of the upcoming season was revealed at Disney’s D23 event, which utilized the opportunity to showcase the new content. Disney and Fortnite share strong ties through their Marvel and Star Wars franchises. Recently, Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, reportedly used the Galactus world-eating event as inspiration for the character’s appearance in the Marvel universe. Galactus will be portrayed by Ralph Ineson, a frequent gaming voice actor, though likely through CGI, in line with the MCU’s tradition. While some critics have questioned Feige’s choice of inspiration, it’s worth noting that the event was impressive, and modern renditions of Galactus have been scarce.

The upcoming season will also introduce a variety of Marvel-themed weapons, including Captain America’s shield and a Doom blast. These weapons have historically tended to disrupt gameplay, often leading to temporary imbalances within the game.

There is speculation about whether this Doctor Doom season was strategically aligned with Disney’s recent reveal of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. Given Disney’s close relationship with Epic Games, the timing seems more than coincidental. Both the reveal and the season were planned well in advance. Although it may seem like an unlikely overlap, Fortnite has previously used in-game events to preview real-world content, such as the surprising introduction of Emperor Palpatine in the new Star Wars trilogy. As such, the connection between the Doctor Doom season and Disney’s reveal will be interesting.

Overall, the new Marvel season promises an exciting array of content for Fortnite players, blending new skins, weapons, and thematic elements with the game’s established mechanics. As always, fans can look forward to how these updates affect gameplay and whether the new content will bring fresh challenges and experiences to the Fortnite universe.
