Audiovector Launches Trapeze Reimagined Loudspeaker

Audiovector, Trapeze Reimagined

Audiovector has unveiled the Trapeze Reimagined loudspeaker, a modern iteration of its iconic Trapez model first launched by founder Ole Klifoth in 1979. This original speaker marked Audiovector’s entrance into the commercial audio market and laid the groundwork for all future models. Designed to replicate the authentic acoustics of a concert hall, the Trapez has left a lasting legacy that continues to inspire Audiovector’s innovations nearly 45 years later.

The Trapeze Reimagined encapsulates a wealth of experience, innovation, and a passion for music that has been cultivated over decades. This new speaker not only pays homage to its predecessor but also incorporates state-of-the-art technology that aims to elevate audio performance across all genres. The combination of classic design elements and cutting-edge audio engineering allows the Trapeze Reimagined to promise an engaging listening experience, intended to bring music to life with remarkable clarity and depth.

One of the standout features of the Trapeze Reimagined is its striking Danish aesthetic. The design is both functional and visually appealing, with the front of the speaker angled toward the listener while maintaining a parallel orientation at the rear. This configuration optimizes sound projection and integration into various living spaces. Hand-veneered cabinets add an elegant touch, while generous internal bracing minimizes distortion and enhances sound fidelity.

At the heart of the speaker’s audio capabilities is the Audiovector 5-inch midrange driver. This driver utilizes a powerful Neodymium magnet that facilitates superior control and power delivery. Audiovector claims that the design includes a patented distortion-shorting cap that keeps distortion levels exceptionally low. Complementing the midrange driver is a lightweight membrane featuring a corrugated “concertina” surround, designed for rapid response and seamless integration with the speaker’s AMT treble driver. This attention to detail ensures that the Trapeze Reimagined can handle complex musical passages with finesse.

The speaker is equipped with a proprietary linear phase crossover, crafted from precision components tailored for their specific roles. In line with the design philosophy of the original Trapez, Audiovector employs a 6dB per octave linear phase crossover topology. This engineering choice is crucial for achieving a perfect step response, resulting in a sound that is both clear and natural. The in-house technologies utilized in the crossover include cryogenically treated tin flash/copper capacitors, air-cooled metal-housed resistors for the bass and midrange, and a collection of film resistors in the treble section to minimize induction distortion. Each component is manufactured to exacting tolerances of ± 1%, underscoring Audiovector’s commitment to quality.

In the low-frequency range, the Trapeze Reimagined features a 12-inch bass driver with a 4-inch voice coil, engineered to produce clean bass notes with low distortion. The rubber “concertina” surround allows for quick movement, ensuring that it can blend effectively with the responsive midrange driver. This design enables the reproduction of natural and dynamic vocals, delivering a rich sound profile devoid of unwanted boom or bloom.

Inside the cabinet, Audiovector has implemented its Diffraction Absorption Control technology. This involves a thick layer of natural felt strategically placed around the mid and treble drivers, which absorbs reflected energy, thereby enhancing their performance as point sources. The angled cabinet shape further aids in eliminating standing waves, creating optimal conditions for the drivers to operate.

To enhance performance, the Trapeze Reimagined incorporates double mechanical decoupling. This includes a twin-layer aluminum plinth designed with built-in decoupling mechanisms using carbon-steel ball bearings and Audiovector spikes. This sophisticated combination minimizes distortion and optimizes the interaction between the speaker and the floor, resulting in a cleaner, more precise audio performance.

Mads Klifoth, managing director of Audiovector, expressed pride in the new loudspeakers, stating, “The Trapeze Reimagined takes Audiovector’s design heritage and combines it with the latest audio principles to create something truly special. These speakers bring elegance to any room and, most importantly, are a whole lot of fun to listen to.”

The Trapeze Reimagined is available from Audiovector in four standard finishes: Black Ash, Nordic Oak, Italian Walnut, and White Silk. Each speaker is crafted from selected real wood veneers, and Audiovector offers options for custom finishes, which are hand-painted in Denmark. The price for a pair of Trapeze Reimagined speakers is set at $19,950 in the U.S., £15,500 in the U.K., and €17,500 in Europe.

In summary, the Audiovector Trapeze Reimagined loudspeaker represents a significant advancement in audio technology while honoring the legacy of its predecessor. With its combination of innovative features and timeless design, it is poised to deliver an exceptional listening experience that caters to audiophiles and music lovers alike. Whether for casual listening or critical audio evaluation, the Trapeze Reimagined aims to fulfill the promise of bringing every note and nuance to life, making it a worthy investment for those seeking excellence in sound reproduction.
