Israeli Tech Titan Shaul Shani’s Growing Empire: A Journey from Port City to Global Telecom Leadership

Shaul Shani, the Israeli technology magnate and founder of Swarth Group, continues to strengthen his position in the global technology landscape with his net worth reaching $4.32 billion as of January 2025. Born in Kiryat Eliezer, Haifa, in 1955, Shani has transformed from humble beginnings as the son of a port worker to becoming one of Israel’s most influential tech investors.

The veteran entrepreneur has seen a notable increase in his wealth over the past year, with his net worth growing by $313.5 million from 2023’s figure of $4 billion. This growth reflects the continued success of his strategic investments and business acumen in the telecommunications and technology sectors.

Currently residing in Milan, Italy, Shani maintains his position as a significant figure in the global business community through Swarth Group, his private global investment company. The company’s portfolio spans across various sectors, including communication services, technology, IT, cyber, renewable energy, and real estate.

One of Shani’s most recent significant corporate governance roles includes his appointment to the board of directors of Ribbon Communications Inc. in June 2020, where his Swarth Group holds a 17.8% stake following the merger with ECI Telecom. This strategic position further cements his influence in the telecommunications industry and demonstrates his continued active involvement in shaping the future of global communications infrastructure.

Shani’s journey to success is marked by several notable achievements, including the founding of Oshap Technologies in 1982, which he successfully listed on NASDAQ in 1985 and later sold to SunGard for $210 million. His most profitable venture was Global Village Telecom, which he founded in 1999 and sold to Vivendi for $4.5 billion in 2009, generating a remarkable profit of $1.5 billion.
