Niraj Bajaj, born on October 10, 1954, is a prominent Indian industrialist whose career spans over 35 years. He currently serves as the Chairman of Bajaj Auto, a position he has held since May 1, 2021. Bajaj Auto is a flagship company of the Bajaj Group, one of India’s largest conglomerates with a market capitalization exceeding ₹900,000 crores and a workforce of over 50,000 employees.
Niraj Bajaj’s academic journey began at the Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai. He pursued a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai, and later earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Harvard Business School in Boston, USA.
In addition to his role at Bajaj Auto, Niraj Bajaj holds several key positions within the Bajaj Group. He is the Chairman and Managing Director of Mukand Limited, a leading steel manufacturing company, and serves as the Vice Chairman of Bajaj Holdings & Investment Limited (BHIL). His directorships extend to Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance Co. Ltd. and Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Co. Ltd., among others.
Beyond his corporate endeavors, Niraj Bajaj has made significant contributions to the sports community. He represented India in table tennis from 1970 to 1977, captaining the national team for the last four years of his tenure. During this period, he clinched the All-India Table Tennis Championship three times and was ranked India’s No.1 player on four occasions. In recognition of his sporting achievements, he was honored with the Arjuna Award, India’s highest sports accolade, the Shiv Chhatrapati Award, Maharashtra’s premier sports honor, and the Maharashtra Gaurav Puraskar.
In March 2023, Niraj Bajaj made headlines with the acquisition of a sea-facing apartment in South Mumbai’s Walkeshwar area. The property, part of the under-construction ‘Lodha Malabar Palaces by the Sea’ project, spans 18,008 square feet and was purchased for ₹252.5 crores. This transaction underscores his stature in India’s business elite and reflects the ongoing trend of high-value real estate investments in Mumbai.
Niraj Bajaj’s personal life is marked by his marriage to Minal Bajaj, who is actively involved in philanthropic activities. She serves as the Honorary Director of the Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation, focusing on various developmental projects and initiatives aimed at uplifting marginalized communities.
