Pokémon Company: New Games, Netflix Series, Sales Milestone

Pokémon Horizons

The Pokémon Company has unveiled a series of exciting updates and releases for fans worldwide, enhancing the beloved franchise’s legacy as it nears the remarkable milestone of 500 million software sales. Among the highlights is the announcement of “Pokémon Legends: Z-A,” a highly anticipated Nintendo Switch game slated for release next year. Set in the captivating backdrop of Lumiose City, the same setting as the acclaimed “Pokémon X and Y,” this new installment is expected to deliver a fresh and immersive experience to players.

Following the success of “Violet” and “Scarlet,” which became the biggest Nintendo launch in history with 10 million sales in just three days, “Pokémon Legends: Z-A” is poised to make a significant impact on the gaming world. Additionally, fans can look forward to the release of “Pocket,” a new mobile trading card game for iOS and Android devices. Featuring “immersive cards” that bring the world of Pokémon illustrations to life, this game promises to offer a unique and engaging gameplay experience.

Adding to the excitement is the upcoming Netflix series, “Pokémon Horizons: The Series,” set to premiere on March 7. This 40-episode Tokyo TV show will introduce new human characters, Liko and Roy, as they embark on their journey as Pokémon trainers. With its debut in the American market, the series is expected to captivate audiences with its fresh storyline and engaging characters.

The Pokémon franchise continues to be a powerhouse in the entertainment industry, having grossed an estimated $92 billion since its inception. With revenue streams from merchandising, video games, trading cards, box office earnings, comics, and other sales, Pokémon’s popularity shows no signs of waning. The franchise has sold over 480 million units of software and more than 52.9 billion cards globally. Animated TV shows based on Pokémon have been broadcasted in 192 countries and regions, highlighting its global appeal.

However, amidst these exciting announcements, Nintendo experienced a 6% drop in shares following reports of a delay in the launch of the Switch 2 console until 2025. Originally slated for release earlier, the Switch 2 is now expected to hit the market around March 2025. Despite this setback, the original Nintendo Switch remains a best-selling console, with 122.55 million units sold since its launch in 2017, showcasing the enduring popularity of Nintendo’s gaming platforms.
