AMD RX 7900 GRE Launches in US with $100 Price Drop

RX 7900 GRE

AMD is set to shake up the GPU market with the imminent release of the Radeon RX 7900 GRE (Golden Rabbit Edition) in the US, following its earlier debut in China and limited appearances elsewhere. This new offering, recently spotted in the UK, is generating significant buzz as it prepares to hit US shores later this month. What’s particularly exciting for consumers is the news of a substantial price cut compared to its sibling, the RX 7900 XT.

Priced at just $549, the RX 7900 GRE presents a compelling option for gamers looking for high-performance graphics without breaking the bank. This $100 reduction from the RX 7900 XT’s $749 retail price not only positions the GRE as an attractive alternative within AMD’s lineup but also puts it in direct competition with Nvidia’s RTX 4070, which has also seen a price drop, now available for less than $550.

The timing of this release is strategic, coming on the heels of Nvidia’s Super series launch, which saw the introduction of the RTX 4070 Super, 4070 Ti Super, and RTX 4080 Super. With Nvidia’s recent moves putting pressure on pricing, AMD’s decision to offer a high-performance GPU at a lower price point is a savvy move that could win over budget-conscious gamers.

Despite its lower price, the RX 7900 GRE doesn’t skimp on features. Boasting 16GB of memory, the same as the RX 7800 XT, the GRE also offers more compute units (CUs) and stream processors. While it may have a slightly lower boost frequency and memory speed compared to the RX 7900 XT, it still promises excellent performance, particularly at 1440p, with the potential for 4K gaming as well.

This launch is part of AMD’s broader strategy to offer competitive GPUs across various price points, filling the gap between the RX 7800 XT and the RX 7900 XT. By providing a compelling alternative to Nvidia’s offerings, AMD is positioning itself as a serious contender in the GPU market.

The RX 7900 GRE’s arrival is welcome news for PC gamers, signaling a positive trend of decreasing GPU prices. While prices remain higher than in previous years, this shift suggests that both AMD and Nvidia are working to make high-performance gaming more accessible to a wider audience.

In the coming weeks, I’ll be diving deep into the RX 7900 GRE, comparing it against the RTX 4070, 4070 Super, and RX 7800 XT, among other cards. Be sure to follow me on Forbes, Facebook, and YouTube for the full review and a detailed discussion of pricing and performance.
