Mission Unveils 750 Speakers: Classic Design, Modern Sound

Mission 750

Mission, the renowned British audio brand with a rich legacy in loudspeaker design, has unveiled its latest creation, the Mission 750 speakers. These speakers represent a blend of classic design elements and modern innovations, drawing on the brand’s heritage while catering to the demands of contemporary audiophiles.

Since its inception, Mission has been a pioneer in the field of loudspeakers, with landmark products such as the iconic 770 loudspeakers that debuted in 1978. Following the success of the 770, Mission continued to make waves in the industry with the introduction of the more compact Mission 700, solidifying its position as a dominant player in the British hi-fi scene.

One of Mission’s most significant contributions to the audio world was its role in popularizing smaller bookshelf speakers in the 1980s and ’90s. The company’s models, including the 770 and 700, were not only more manageable in size but also delivered exceptional sound quality, characterized by the classic British hi-fi sound that enthusiasts have come to love.

In recent years, Mission has revisited its early successes, particularly the 770 and 700 models, by reimagining them for a new generation of music lovers. This revival of classic designs has resonated with both nostalgic audiophiles and younger enthusiasts looking for high-quality sound experiences.

The Mission 750 speakers, the latest addition to the Mission family, boast a classic bookshelf design that blends seamlessly with the brand’s existing lineup. Featuring dimensions of 355 x 216 x 270mm, the 750 speakers are compact yet powerful, offering a balance of form and function.

One of the standout features of the Mission 750 is its inverted driver arrangement, a design innovation known as Inverted Driver Geometry (IDG). This unique configuration places the tweeter below the woofer, a departure from conventional speaker designs. Mission claims that this arrangement improves stereo imaging, resulting in a more cohesive and transparent soundstage.

The woofer of the Mission 750 is crafted from polypropylene, with added minerals to enhance stiffness. This design choice enables the woofer to deliver fast and tight bass response, allowing listeners to experience the full range and depth of bass instruments with precision.

The tweeter of the Mission 750 is equally impressive, featuring a lightweight, damped microfiber dome that ensures smooth and detailed high-frequency performance. The crossover network of the speakers has been meticulously designed to achieve a balanced sound signature, ensuring that bass, midrange, and treble frequencies are reproduced accurately.

The cabinet of the Mission 750 is constructed from a twin-wall sandwich of high-density MDF and particle board, bonded with a high-damping adhesive. This construction minimizes panel resonance, allowing the drive units to operate without interference from the cabinet, resulting in a cleaner and more detailed sound.

Available in walnut or black wood veneer finishes, the Mission 750 speakers are priced at $1199 / £899 per pair and are set to be available from mid-April. With their blend of classic design, innovative features, and exceptional sound quality, the Mission 750 speakers are poised to set a new standard in the world of audio excellence.
