Indian Motorcycle Updates Scout Model Line

Indian Motorcycle has given its popular Scout model a major overhaul, marking the first update since 2015. The Scout is known for being a smaller, faster, sportier, and more affordable alternative to Indian’s heavier cruiser and touring motorcycles.

Originally produced in 1920, the Scout was discontinued in 1953 after Indian struggled to shift back to civilian production post-World War II. It was later resurrected under the Polaris umbrella in 2011, with the new Scout featuring a modernized liquid-cooled V-Twin engine.

For the 2025 model year, Indian is updating and expanding the Scout lineup to include five different models, with a sixth model, the Scout Sixty, expected to join soon. All models will be based on a common platform powered by a new liquid-cooled “SpeedPlus” 1,250cc V-Twin engine that delivers 105 horsepower and 82 pound-feet of torque. The Scout Sixty is likely to have a smaller engine, around 1,000cc.

The new Scout models feature a steel tube frame that adds rigidity while paying homage to the classic Scout design. Ola Stenegard, Director of Industrial Design for Indian Motorcycle, explained, “We wanted to capture a timeless look that never goes out of style, and looks beautiful whether naked or fully dressed. We wanted to elevate the bike’s technical sophistication, while at the same time, keeping it simple enough to allow riders’ imaginations to take flight with the widest range of accessory options and customization possibilities.”

The top-tier Scout 101 variant, priced at $16,999, offers 111 horsepower, achieved through digital enhancements. The other models include the wire-wheel and chrome Scout Classic at $13,999, the light touring Indian Super Scout at $16,499, the Sport Scout with a small bikini fairing at $13,499, and the urban-focused Scout Bobber at $12,999. Each model can be further customized with up to three different trim packages, offering features such as traction control, ride modes, a high-tech touchscreen instrument nacelle, and cruise control.

The revised Scout models, with a displacement increase from 1,200cc to 1,250cc, are a strategic move by Indian to compete with Harley-Davidson’s new Sportster S and Pan America adventure bike, both powered by the modern 1,252cc Revolution Max liquid-cooled V-Twin engine. The upcoming Scout Sixty is expected to compete directly with Harley-Davidson’s Nightster, which features a 975cc liquid-cooled V-Twin engine and is priced at $11,999.

Overall, Indian’s revamped Scout lineup offers a range of options to cater to different riding styles and preferences, combining modern performance with classic design elements.
