Mercedes-AMG Unveils 2025 GT63S E Performance

Mercedes-AMG is making waves at the Shanghai Formula One event, with their E Performance engines powering the top qualifiers, including Lewis Hamilton. Alongside the F1 excitement, the company has revealed its new flagship coupe: the 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT 63S E Performance, boasting 805 horsepower from its plug-in hybrid setup.

While these hybrid models are new to the U.S. market, Mercedes-AMG has been electrifying its lineup since 2021, starting with the AMG GT four-door coupe. The GT 63S E Performance joins the C 63 and S 63 E Performance sedans, along with the upcoming SL 63S E Performance.

Built on a redesigned platform, the GT coupes are lighter and more rigid, delivering faster and more focused performance. The E Performance model, featuring a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and an electric drive unit with a 6.1-kWH battery pack, promises to be the quickest yet, accelerating to 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 199 mph.

Unlike traditional plug-in hybrids focused on efficiency, the E Performance models prioritize performance, leveraging technology derived from Formula One. These cars are designed to rapidly deploy, recover, and store energy to enhance their performance capabilities, much like F1 cars.

The GT 63S E Performance’s battery pack, featuring 560 individual power cells and a liquid cooling system, delivers a continuous output of 94 horsepower and a peak output of 201. Combined with the V8 engine’s 603 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, the total output reaches an impressive 805 hp and 1,047 lb-ft.

To manage this power effectively, the GT 63S E Performance includes sophisticated mechanical systems, such as an electric drive unit mechanically linked to all four wheels, a two-speed transmission, and a limited-slip differential. The car also features active ride control suspension, adaptive shock absorbers, and hydraulic anti-roll bars for exceptional handling and ride comfort.

With a host of advanced features, including active aerodynamics, rear-wheel steering, and multiple driving modes, the GT 63S E Performance promises an exhilarating driving experience. Pricing details are yet to be announced, but the car is expected to exceed $200,000 when it goes on sale later this year.
