Trump Named Co-Conspirator in Michigan Fake Electors Case

Former President Donald Trump has been named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the Michigan fake electors case, as reported by several outlets. However, Trump has not been formally charged in the investigation, which centers on 16 fake Republican electors from Michigan who allegedly attempted to undermine the 2020 presidential election in favor of Trump.

Howard Shock, a special agent for Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, identified Trump as a co-conspirator during a hearing on Wednesday, according to CNN. Shock also named former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani, former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, and former Trump campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis as co-conspirators.

Although they have not been charged, Shock’s designation suggests that prosecutors believe these individuals were involved in a scheme to convince Congress that Trump had won Michigan’s 16 electoral votes. This designation was made in connection to charges against 16 fake electors who are accused of meeting secretly in the basement of the Michigan Republican Party headquarters after the 2020 election was called for President Joe Biden. The fake electors allegedly signed their names on a certificate pretending to be qualified electors awarding Michigan’s electoral votes to Trump, despite Biden’s victory in the state.

In response to the revelation, Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung stated, “The American People will not fall for the Biden-directed Witch-Hunts,” echoing Trump’s claims that the legal actions against him are politically motivated.

While Trump has not been indicted in the Michigan case, he faces charges in Georgia for allegedly trying to overturn his election loss in the state. Additionally, he faces federal charges from Special Counsel Jack Smith accusing him of attempting to overturn the election. Trial dates for these cases have not yet been set.
