Fresh speculation surrounding DC Studios’ search for its next Batman has placed British actor Tom Brittney at the center of online discussion, following reports from industry insiders suggesting he could be the leading candidate for the role in the upcoming The Brave and the Bold. Despite the growing buzz, no official casting announcement has been made by DC Studios.
The rumor originated with entertainment commentator John Campea, who said he had learned the identity of the actor from multiple sources and described the choice as someone he “wouldn’t have guessed.” The speculation gained additional momentum after another insider, MyTimeToShine, stated that the actor’s first name was “Tom,” leading many fans to identify Tom Brittney as the rumored candidate.
Although Brittney is not widely known to mainstream audiences, he has built a notable television career. He is best recognized for starring in the long-running British drama Grantchester, appearing in 34 episodes across the series, which has aired since 2014. He also had a supporting role in Netflix’s Back in Action, starring Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz, one of the streaming platform’s most-watched films.
His relatively modest résumé has not discouraged speculation. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn previously cast David Corenswet as Superman despite the actor being best known for supporting roles in Pearl, Twisters and the television series The Politician. Brittney has also reportedly been among the finalists considered for Superman before Corenswet secured the role. Nicholas Hoult, another finalist, was later cast as Lex Luthor, fueling theories that Brittney could similarly receive another major DC Universe role.
Batman casting rumors have circulated for months, with Gunn previously stating that casting had not yet begun and personally dismissing several reports. Some observers now believe the latest speculation could signal that the process has advanced, while others have suggested the renewed attention may help shift focus away from the disappointing theatrical performance of Supergirl. However, that remains only a theory and has not been confirmed.
At present, there is no official confirmation that Tom Brittney has been cast as Batman. While the reports have generated widespread discussion online and align with previous casting patterns within the DC Universe, additional verification will be needed before the rumors can be considered confirmed.
