Mercedes-Maybach has introduced the 2027 S 680, a flagship luxury sedan that combines handcrafted craftsmanship, advanced technology and a rare V12 engine to deliver an experience centered on comfort and effortless performance. Based on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the model features a longer body, bespoke finishes and an extensive list of premium features designed to elevate every journey.

Final U.S. pricing has not yet been announced by Mercedes-Benz USA, but the sedan is expected to start at around $247,000 before optional equipment. With customization and special finishes, the total price can easily approach or exceed $250,000.

Powering the S 680 is a handcrafted 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine producing 621 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. The powertrain is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and standard 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Despite weighing approximately 5,280 pounds and measuring nearly 18 feet in length, Mercedes says the luxury sedan can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds.

Rather than focusing on sporty driving dynamics, the S 680 is engineered to deliver smooth and effortless acceleration. The V12 provides immediate power with minimal mechanical drama, allowing the car to gain speed quietly and comfortably, especially during highway passing.

The 2027 model also receives exterior updates that distinguish it from the standard S-Class. It features a larger front grille with optional illumination, an illuminated standing Mercedes-Benz hood ornament, star-inspired lighting signatures inside the headlamps, exclusive Maybach trim details and available 20- or 21-inch wheels. A blue-and-silver two-tone paint finish on the test vehicle further emphasized the sedan’s premium styling.

Mercedes continues to expand its personalization options through its MANUFAKTUR Made to Measure program. Buyers can choose from more than 200 exterior paint colors and over 400 interior color combinations while also selecting custom leather finishes, stitching patterns and decorative details. Customers can even request personalized embroidery, including names, initials or corporate branding on selected interior surfaces.

Inside, the cabin emphasizes handcrafted luxury. The test vehicle featured bright white leather upholstery with newly designed patterned stitching that echoed Maybach’s exterior design elements. Combined with the blue-and-white exterior finish, the interior created an atmosphere more reminiscent of a luxury yacht than a traditional sedan.

Rear-seat passengers remain the primary focus of the S 680. Available Executive seats recline up to 43 degrees and include powered calf and footrests, along with heating, ventilation and massage functions. Standard power-operated rear doors further enhance convenience, while a removable rear control tablet manages seating, climate, audio and entertainment features.

The rear cabin can also be equipped with dual 13.1-inch entertainment displays that support video streaming and productivity functions. A refrigerated compartment and optional silver-plated champagne flutes add to the limousine-like experience, although the refrigerator reduces available trunk space. Buyers can choose between a four-seat Executive layout with a large center console or a three-person rear bench that allows passengers to move across the cabin for easier curbside exits.

Up front, the standard MBUX Superscreen combines a 14.4-inch central touchscreen with separate 12.3-inch displays for both the driver and front passenger. The passenger display supports video playback and gaming, while eye-tracking technology helps prevent the driver from viewing distracting content. Mercedes also equips the sedan with an augmented reality navigation system that projects directional guidance directly into the head-up display, aligning digital arrows with the road ahead.

The S 680 is designed for long-distance comfort. During testing on California’s Pacific Coast Highway above Malibu, the sedan’s quiet cabin, powerful drivetrain and AIRMATIC air suspension with intelligent damping delivered a relaxed driving experience. Rear-axle steering also improved maneuverability despite the vehicle’s substantial size.

Although Sport mode provides impressive handling for a luxury sedan, the Maybach’s primary strength lies in refined cruising rather than aggressive driving. Its V12 engine offers abundant reserve power for effortless overtaking while maintaining exceptional cabin comfort.

Mercedes also equips the sedan with a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assistance and automatic lane-changing technology. Combined with advanced sound insulation, climate control and massaging seats, these systems help reduce fatigue during heavy traffic.
