Marvel fans have received their clearest look yet at Ian McKellen’s Magneto from Avengers: Doomsday after Hot Toys unveiled an officially licensed collectible figure based on the character’s appearance in the upcoming film. The reveal comes shortly after Avengers: Doomsday took center stage at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where Marvel Studios showcased new footage featuring Doctor Doom while offering only brief glimpses of Magneto and Patrick Stewart’s Professor X.
The film was one of the biggest attractions at Hall H inside the San Diego Convention Center, where Robert Downey Jr. joined fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe cast members for a panel alongside Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and directors Anthony and Joe Russo. According to Variety, the latest trailer focused primarily on Doctor Doom, played by Downey, with only quick appearances from several other characters, including McKellen’s Magneto. Earlier teaser trailers had similarly limited Magneto’s screen time, showing Patrick Stewart’s Professor X visiting him while he was not wearing his iconic helmet.
Sideshow Collectibles, the U.S. distributor for Hong Kong-based Hot Toys, has now released official images of the 12-inch Magneto collectible, giving fans a detailed view of the character’s full X-Men costume and helmet as they will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. The company also revealed official photos of Hot Toys figures featuring Doctor Doom, Channing Tatum’s Gambit and James Marsden’s Cyclops. Before the official announcement, the figures were displayed at Sideshow’s booth during San Diego Comic-Con 2026.
The Magneto figure is available for pre-order through Sideshow Collectibles in both Collector’s and Deluxe editions, with deliveries expected between July and December 2027. The Collector’s Edition is priced at $285, while the Deluxe Edition costs $390. Both editions are also offered in special versions at the same prices that include a commemorative life-sized metal ring.
Standing 11.8 inches tall, both versions feature a newly designed helmeted head sculpt equipped with separate rolling eyeballs. The figure includes a detailed likeness of Ian McKellen as he appears in the film, along with light gray wavy hair crafted from wool material beneath the helmet. The Collector’s Edition comes with Magneto’s signature costume, cape, boots, six interchangeable hands and a standard display base.
The Deluxe Edition adds a battle-damaged Sentinel-themed diorama display base featuring a USB-powered LED lighting function, offering collectors an expanded presentation of the character.
Avengers: Doomsday marks Ian McKellen’s sixth appearance as Magneto on the big screen. He first portrayed Erik Lehnsherr in X-Men (2000), followed by X2: X-Men United (2003) and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). After Michael Fassbender took over the younger version of Magneto in X-Men: First Class (2011), both actors appeared together in X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014). McKellen also made a cameo as Magneto alongside Patrick Stewart’s Professor X in The Wolverine (2013).
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to open in theaters worldwide on Dec. 18.
