Trump Floods Truth Social With AI Images Targeting Critics

President Donald Trump shared dozens of AI-generated images on Truth Social on Sunday, posting content that mocked political and media critics, threatened Iran, referenced a possible 2028 presidential run, and portrayed him alongside several historic American figures. The posting spree is the latest in a series of AI-related posts that have previously drawn criticism and controversy.

Between 11:16 a.m. and 5:16 p.m. ET, Trump published 43 images on the platform, most of which appeared to be AI-generated caricatures or deepfakes. The series began with an image depicting CNN journalist Kaitlan Collins as transgender social media personality Dylan Mulvaney, revisiting remarks Trump made during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Trump followed with AI-generated cartoons targeting several of his prominent critics, including musician Bruce Springsteen, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, and comedian Rosie O’Donnell. He also posted fabricated images portraying late-night television hosts Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, and Jimmy Fallon as unemployed and asking for money, even though both Kimmel’s and Fallon’s programs remain on the air.

Several posts focused on Iran, featuring AI-generated images that showed Kharg Island under bombardment, Iranian oil tankers being seized by U.S. forces, and other scenes involving Trump. Additional images revived the idea of Trump seeking another presidential term in 2028, despite constitutional term limits preventing a third term.

Some of the AI-generated content presented Trump alongside notable figures from American history. One image labeled “America First” showed him standing with people resembling George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Alexander Hamilton. Another depicted Trump next to John F. Kennedy outside the White House without any caption or explanation. The final post in the series was a fictional movie-style poster titled “Trump X Washington,” portraying Trump rescuing George Washington.

Amid the AI image campaign, Trump also shared a bar chart criticizing Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D. The chart, titled “Where is John Thune,” compared the number of recess appointments made during the administrations of Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush with none during Trump’s presidency. The graphic did not mention that former President Joe Biden also made no recess appointments during his term. Trump later shared another AI-generated image depicting himself as a doctor pointing to a human spine alongside the caption, “You see this spine? This is what I want to put back in Republicans.”

Trump’s repeated use of AI-generated imagery has sparked controversy over the past year. In April, he shared an AI-generated image portraying himself as Jesus Christ during a public dispute with Pope Leo XIV, prompting criticism from multiple groups, including some Republicans, before the post was removed. Days later, he published another AI image showing himself embraced by Jesus in front of an American flag. He has also shared AI-generated posts depicting himself and members of his Cabinet swimming in the renovated Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, portraying it as a neglected sewer under previous Democratic administrations before renovation efforts later encountered algae and paint-related issues. Earlier this month, Trump also posted a 90-second AI-generated video showing himself as a doctor diagnosing “Trump Derangement Syndrome” among celebrity critics, featuring deepfakes of Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie O’Donnell, Robert De Niro, Julia Roberts, Edward Norton, John Leguizamo, and others.
