Following the conclusion of another exciting Super Bowl, it’s time to reflect on the standout advertisements that captured our attention. As tradition dictates, Kellogg’s MBA students took on the task of evaluating this year’s Super Bowl commercials, showcasing their expertise in advertising analysis. While their assessments were thorough and fair, I have a few personal favorites that I believe deserve special recognition.
One advertisement that particularly impressed me was the CeraVe spot featuring Michael Cera. Beyond my admiration for Michael Cera’s work, this commercial stood out for its clever use of the actor’s name to promote the brand’s moisturizing benefits. By leveraging a well-known celebrity, CeraVe effectively drew attention to its product while also highlighting the importance of skincare. The strategic rollout of the ad across various channels, including a longer online version, further enhanced its impact and left a lasting impression.
Another standout was the Reese’s ad, which cleverly showcased fans’ reactions to a new product offering. This advertisement struck a chord with me, as it not only introduced a new caramel offering but also emphasized the enduring appeal of the original Reese’s peanut butter cups. The simplicity of the ad’s message, coupled with its ability to evoke nostalgia and loyalty among consumers, was a testament to Reese’s marketing prowess and its ability to stay relevant in a competitive market.
Lastly, the Uber Eats advertisement also caught my attention for its strategic messaging and creative execution. By highlighting the diverse range of products available for delivery, from coffee to office supplies, Uber Eats effectively positioned itself as a convenient and reliable service. The creative device used in the ad, which humorously depicted people forgetting basic things due to Uber Eats’ offerings, not only captured the audience’s attention but also reinforced the brand’s message in a memorable way.
In conclusion, these advertisements not only resonated with me personally but also received high praise from our panel of experts, each earning an A. They serve as prime examples of how strategic messaging and creative execution can elevate a brand’s presence and resonate with consumers.
