Alogic Apex: Budget-Friendly Wireless Mouse

Alogic Apex

The Logitech MX3S is widely celebrated as one of the best computer mice on the market, offering exceptional build quality and advanced features. However, its premium price can deter budget-conscious buyers. Alogic has introduced the Apex, a USB-C wireless mouse designed to deliver a similar feature set at a significantly lower price point. Known for its high-quality docking stations and computer displays, Alogic is a trusted Australian brand that now extends its expertise to this affordable yet versatile mouse. The Apex promises to appeal to users across both Windows and macOS platforms.

The Alogic Apex is crafted with comfort in mind, weighing just 93 grams and designed to fit snugly in the palm of most adult hands. Its size is a balanced medium, making it neither too small nor overly large—ideal for extended use. The mouse includes seven buttons: two primary buttons, a clickable scroll wheel with a textured ring, a third central button, a horizontal scroll wheel, and two thumb-operated buttons commonly used for web navigation. These features make the Apex highly adaptable for various tasks, ranging from casual browsing to more intensive workflows.

Customizability is a key selling point of the Apex. Dedicated software for Windows and macOS allows users to configure button functions and optimize the mouse for their specific needs. While the software is functional, it lacks the refinement and advanced capabilities of Logitech’s Logi Options+ software. For example, while users can create multiple profiles tailored to different applications, they must switch between these profiles manually as the software cannot detect active applications automatically.

The Apex boasts an impressive battery life, powered by a built-in 700mAh rechargeable battery. It can last up to 104 hours on a single charge, though actual performance may vary depending on usage and whether the LED lighting is enabled. Unlike some mice that rely on disposable alkaline batteries, the Apex’s rechargeable design is both convenient and environmentally friendly. A USB-C cable is included for recharging, and while the battery life does not quite match the exceptional longevity of the Logitech MX3S, it remains reliable and practical for most users.

Connectivity is another area where the Apex excels, offering both Bluetooth and 2.4GHz wireless options. A 2.4GHz USB dongle is stored in the mouse’s base, providing a low-latency connection ideal for tasks requiring precision, such as gaming. The Apex can pair with two Bluetooth devices, and users can easily switch between them by pressing a button located on the base. While the Logitech MX3S supports pairing with three devices, the Apex’s two-device capability should meet the needs of most users.

The Apex features a tracking sensor with adjustable resolution ranging from 1,200 to 6,400 DPI. This can be toggled using the third central button, allowing users to customize sensitivity based on their specific tasks. Whether for detailed graphic design or fast-paced gaming, the Apex’s tracking capabilities offer flexibility and reliability. While it may not rival the advanced tracking of Logitech’s flagship models, it delivers solid performance for everyday use.

Adding a touch of style, the Apex includes an LED strip light around its heel. Users can customize the lighting to static or breathing effects through the software or turn it off entirely to conserve battery life. While the LED lighting is not essential, it adds a modern and visually appealing element to the mouse, enhancing its overall design.

The Alogic Apex stands out as a cost-effective alternative to the Logitech MX3S. Priced at $53.99, it offers significant savings while delivering a feature set that closely aligns with higher-end models. While the build quality and software refinement may not reach the level of Logitech’s premium products, the Apex provides excellent value for its price. It is a versatile and reliable option for users seeking a high-quality wireless mouse without the hefty price tag.

For anyone in search of a dependable and feature-rich mouse at an affordable price, the Alogic Apex is a compelling choice. Whether for professional tasks, casual use, or gaming, this mouse combines functionality, comfort, and performance, making it a strong competitor in its price range.
