Gotye’s “Somebody” 2024 Remix Hits Billboard Charts

Gotye's "Somebody" Remix Hits Billboard

After more than a decade since its release, Gotye’s iconic hit “Somebody That I Used to Know” has re-emerged into the spotlight with a fresh twist. The Australian singer-songwriter, who seemed to vanish from the music scene after the song’s initial success, has returned to the Billboard charts with a new version of his smash hit, titled “Somebody (2024).”

The remix of “Somebody That I Used to Know” was crafted by three electronic music producers: Chris Lake, Fisher, and Sante Sansone. While the essence of the original track remains intact, the remix introduces a new dynamic, particularly noticeable with the introduction of a significant beat change around the one-minute mark.

The reworked track, “Somebody (2024),” has made a notable impact on the charts. It debuted at No. 27 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart and at No. 11 on the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart. This resurgence marks a significant moment for Gotye, as it is his first appearance on these particular charts. However, it’s worth noting that the original version of “Somebody That I Used to Know” had previously achieved significant success, topping the Dance/Mix Show Airplay ranking in 2012.

The new rendition of “Somebody That I Used to Know” credits five musicians, including Gotye and Kimbra, his original collaborator whose vocals are featured in both versions of the song. This recognition is a nod to the duo’s role in making the original song a global sensation.

The impact of “Somebody That I Used to Know” cannot be overstated. Upon its release in mid-2011, the track quickly climbed to the top of various Billboard charts, including the Hot 100. It has since been certified 14-times platinum in the U.S. alone, indicating sales and streaming numbers exceeding 14 million equivalent units. Additionally, the song received critical acclaim, winning both Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Record of the Year at the Grammy Awards.

Gotye’s return to the charts with “Somebody (2024)” serves as a testament to the enduring appeal of his music and solidifies his status as a prominent figure in the music industry.
