Adobe Unveils Breakthrough AI Tools for Premiere Pro

Premiere Pro new ai tool

Adobe has announced a groundbreaking advancement in its video editing software, Adobe Premiere Pro, with the introduction of cutting-edge generative AI technology. This innovation is poised to revolutionize video production by offering users a host of new creative possibilities.

The new generative AI tools integrated into Premiere Pro are designed to streamline the editing process, allowing users to effortlessly add or remove objects in a scene or extend an existing clip. These tools leverage a new video model that joins Adobe’s suite of Firefly models, which includes Image, Vector, Design, and Text Effects.

Adobe is committed to advancing its Firefly AI models across various creative realms, including imaging, video, audio, and 3D, integrating them seamlessly into Creative Cloud and Adobe Express. Moreover, Adobe has previewed its plan to incorporate third-party generative AI models directly into Adobe applications like Premiere Pro.

To enhance the capabilities of Premiere Pro further, Adobe is expanding its support for third-party plugins, offering a glimpse into how professional video editors can leverage video generation models from OpenAI and Runway from within Premiere Pro to generate B-roll for projects. Additionally, Adobe has showcased how Pika Labs could be utilized with the Generative Extend tool to add a few seconds to the end of a shot.

By introducing these new generative AI capabilities powered by Adobe Firefly and a range of third-party models, Adobe aims to provide customers with a plethora of new tools and features without disrupting their existing workflow in Premiere Pro.

Ashley Still, Senior Vice President of the Creative Product Group at Adobe, remarked, “Adobe is reimagining every step of the video creation and production workflow to give creators new power and flexibility to realize their vision. By integrating generative AI innovations into core Premiere Pro workflows, we are addressing real pain points that video editors face daily, allowing them to focus more on their craft.”

Some of the key developments include Generative Extend, which seamlessly adds frames to lengthen clips, simplifying the process of timing edits and adding smooth transitions. Object Addition and Removal allow for the easy selection, tracking, and replacement of objects, whether removing unwanted items, changing an actor’s wardrobe, or adding set dressings.

Text to Video is another innovative feature that generates new footage directly within Premiere Pro by typing text into a prompt or uploading reference images. This capability is ideal for creating storyboards or generating B-roll to enhance live-action footage.

While the conversation around generative AI has often centered on competition, Adobe envisions a more diverse future where AI-generated content seamlessly integrates into the creative process. Adobe aims to provide industry-standard tools and workflows that enable users to incorporate materials from any source, ensuring a seamless integration process within its applications.

Adobe has also committed to responsible innovation, pledging to apply its learnings to ensure the consistent integration of third-party models within its applications. As a founding member of the Content Authenticity Initiative, Adobe is dedicated to providing Content Credentials, a free, open-source technology that serves as a nutrition label for online content, allowing users to see how content was created and which AI models were used.

In addition to the new generative AI video tools, Adobe will also be introducing new audio workflows in Premiere Pro in May, offering editors precise control over audio quality. These features include interactive fade handles for custom audio transitions, AI-powered audio categorization with the Essential Sound badge, and effect badges for easy identification and addition of effects.

Overall, these new tools represent a significant leap forward in video editing technology, offering users unparalleled creative freedom and efficiency. Adobe Premiere Pro users can look forward to these new features and enhancements being rolled out starting in May.
