‘Godzilla Minus One’ Ousted from Netflix’s Top 10 by ‘Under Paris’

After a solid stint on Netflix’s Top 10 movie list, ‘Godzilla Minus One’ has been replaced by a new contender: ‘Under Paris’. This French film presents a unique twist on the monster genre, centering around a young climate activist’s mission to save a shark in the Seine. Despite its intriguing premise, the film’s mature rating and gory elements suggest it may not be just a feel-good story.

Critically, ‘Under Paris’ has garnered an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 10 reviews. However, audience reception is less favorable, with user scores averaging 39%. In contrast, ‘Godzilla Minus One’ boasts impressive dual scores of 98% from both critics and audiences.

Netflix’s Top 10 often features a mix of licensed films and originals, with varying expectations for performance. While some Netflix originals receive sequels, others, like ‘Red Notice’ and ‘The Gray Man,’ await follow-ups despite initial promises. ‘Under Paris’ being an original, its success might pave the way for potential sequels, echoing the legacy of shark films from ‘Jaws’ to ‘The Meg’. A #1 debut signifies strong viewership, making it the most-watched movie in America currently.

The film’s synopsis is compelling: Glen Powell plays Gary Johnson, a professor who doubles as a fake hit man for the New Orleans Police Department. His talent for adopting various personas leads him into morally ambiguous situations, especially when he becomes involved with Madison (Adria Arjona), a potential criminal.
