Harry Connick Jr. Rocks Out in Netflix’s Find Me Falling

Harry Connick Jr., celebrated for his jazz mastery, is making a striking departure from his usual genre as he steps into the role of a rock star in Netflix’s latest romantic comedy, Find Me Falling. For many, Connick’s transition from jazz to rock might seem surprising. However, for the New Orleans native, it’s a seamless shift that reflects his broad musical background. “Growing up in New Orleans, I was exposed to a rich tapestry of musical styles. Rock and roll was just as much a part of my life as jazz,” Connick shared during a recent Zoom interview. “I’ve recorded rock music and performed in rock bands, so this role felt like a natural fit. While some might view this as a departure from my jazz roots, it felt very comfortable and familiar.”

Find Me Falling, set to debut on Netflix this Friday, stars Connick as John Allman, a once-prominent rock musician grappling with the decline of his career. After his latest album fails to make a splash, Allman decides to leave the U.S. in search of a simpler existence on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. The serene escape he envisions is disrupted when he encounters Melina (Ali Fumiko Whitney), a local musician who instantly connects with him. His new life takes an even more unexpected turn when he meets Sia (Agni Scott), an ex-lover from his past who knew him before he became famous.

The film was shot on location in Cyprus, and Connick was mesmerized by the breathtaking landscapes. The house where Allman resides in the movie bears a striking resemblance to the iconic home from Pixar’s Up, known for its picturesque setting. “Arriving in Cyprus and seeing the filming location was beyond anything I had imagined,” Connick recalled. “I had prepared by watching films about the island and reading the script, but nothing compared to the real experience. The house perched on a high cliff was incredibly beautiful and felt almost surreal. It was a genuine pleasure to come to work every day and be surrounded by such stunning scenery.”

Connick’s extensive career spans over three decades, with notable roles in films such as Independence Day, The Iron Giant, Hope Floats, and P.S. I Love You. His television appearances have included guest spots on acclaimed shows like Cheers and Will & Grace. Find Me Falling offers Connick a unique platform to merge his talents in both music and acting. “Exploring how music influences my acting and vice versa is intriguing,” Connick noted. “There’s a rhythm to both disciplines, though articulating their intersection is complex. What’s essential is my passion for performance. This role allows me to bring together my love for acting and music in a meaningful way.”

Connick’s dedication to performance extends beyond traditional roles. “I thrive on variety within entertainment,” he explained. “Whether it’s playing piano, acting in musicals, or tap-dancing on Broadway, I find joy in diverse experiences. While performing only music would be limiting, being without a piano would be equally challenging. I embrace the opportunity to explore different creative avenues.”
