A24’s upcoming film “The Invite” has emerged as one of the highest-rated movies of 2026, earning a 95% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes from 143 reviews ahead of its nationwide theatrical release. The strong reception places the film among the year’s best-reviewed releases as audiences continue flocking to box office hits such as “Obsession,” “Toy Story 5” and “Minions & Monsters.”

Among the year’s major releases with the largest number of Rotten Tomatoes reviews, “The Invite” ranks near the top. It trails only “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma” with a perfect 100% score and “Is God Is” at 97%, while matching the 95% score of “The Sheep Detectives.” Other highly rated titles include “Project Hail Mary,” “Obsession” and “Hoppers” at 94%, followed by “Sent Help” and “Toy Story 5” at 92%, and “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” and “I Love Boosters” at 91%.

The film stars Edward Norton, Penélope Cruz, Olivia Wilde and Seth Rogen, with Wilde also serving as director. The project marks a major critical turnaround for Wilde following her previous directorial effort, “Don’t Worry Darling,” which received a 38% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. In addition to its critical acclaim, “The Invite” has also earned a 93% audience score, indicating strong support from moviegoers.

“The Invite” is scheduled to open in wide release on June 10. Another highly praised title, “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma,” is expected to expand into wider theaters later in August.

According to the official synopsis, “Joe and Angela’s marriage is on thin ice. When they invite their enigmatic upstairs neighbors for a dinner party, the night spirals into unexpected places. Have they reignited the spark or lit the match that burns it all down?”

The story centers on the married couple Joe and Angela, played by Seth Rogen and Olivia Wilde, opposite Edward Norton and Penélope Cruz as their mysterious neighbors. Although the trailer reveals only limited details about the plot, the film’s critical reception has already made it one of the standout releases of the year. It also ranks among the highest-reviewed films in the careers of its four lead actors.

With more than half of 2026 still remaining, “The Invite” has established itself as one of the strongest-reviewed films of the year and could remain a contender during the upcoming awards season.
