Spider-Man: Brand New Day Surpasses $2 Billion Worldwide

Spider-Man: Brand New Day LA Premiere

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has crossed the $2 billion mark at the global box office after three weeks in theaters, becoming the second-fastest movie ever to reach the milestone. The film achieved the feat following another strong weekend at theaters worldwide.

In North America, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” earned an estimated $70 million during its third weekend, according to early industry estimates. That performance lifted its domestic total to approximately $785.8 million.

Only three movies have earned more than that amount during their entire North American theatrical runs: “Star Wars: Episode VII—The Force Awakens,” which collected $936.7 million in 2015; “Avengers: Endgame,” which earned $858.3 million in 2019; and “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which reached $814.9 million in 2021.

The latest weekend performance also moved “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” ahead of “Avatar,” which generated $785.2 million domestically in 2009. The new Spider-Man movie now sits just behind the three films with higher lifetime North American grosses.

Globally, the movie needed roughly three weeks to reach $2 billion, putting it second only to “Avengers: Endgame.” The Marvel blockbuster reached the same worldwide milestone in just 11 days after its 2019 release.

Attention now turns to whether “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” can overtake the $814.9 million domestic total achieved by “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” The new film has already exceeded the previous movie’s $1.9 billion worldwide haul. Its latest $70 million domestic weekend followed a $145 million haul the previous weekend, although the film’s eventual total remains uncertain. No movie has ever surpassed $1 billion solely from the domestic box office.

Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” also continued its strong theatrical run, bringing in an estimated $23.2 million in North America over the weekend. The film has become Nolan’s highest-grossing movie and crossed $500 million domestically. Its worldwide box office has also reached an estimated $1.2 billion.

Two other major weekend releases were built around dinosaurs. “The End of Oak Street,” a sci-fi thriller produced by former “Star Wars” director J.J. Abrams and starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, opened with an estimated $21 million in North America, placing third despite competition from “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” and “The Odyssey.”

“Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie” followed in fourth place with an estimated $20.5 million during its opening weekend. That result came close to the $22.7 million debut of “Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie” in 2023, which remains the strongest opening for the children’s franchise.
