Biden’s Dog Bites Secret Service Agents 24 Times

Biden's Dog Bites Agents 24 Times

President Joe Biden’s German shepherd, Commander, has reportedly bitten Secret Service personnel on at least 24 occasions, according to documents obtained by CNN. The incidents, which have occurred at the White House and the Bidens’ homes in Rehoboth Beach, Wilmington, and Nantucket, have prompted Secret Service personnel to adjust their operational tactics when Commander is present.

These 24 incidents do not include previous reported incidents involving Commander. A report by conservative watchdog Judicial Watch listed at least 10 additional instances, including one that forced a uniformed officer to seek treatment at a nearby hospital. Secret Service communications chief Anthony Guglielmi stated that incidents involving Commander were treated as workplace injuries, and personnel have been navigating how best to operate in an environment that includes family pets for many presidential administrations.

The Bidens took in Commander as a puppy in December 2021 as a gift from Joe Biden’s brother James, following the death of another German shepherd they owned, Champ, at 13. However, since bringing Commander to the White House, the dog has exhibited “extremely aggressive behavior,” according to reports. Some incidents occurred while Commander was roaming unleashed, and First Lady Jill Biden stated she “couldn’t regain control” of him. In September, a photo showed Commander biting a White House groundskeeper. In October, a spokesperson for Jill Biden announced that Commander was no longer living at the White House.

In March 2021, the Bidens sent another German shepherd, three-year-old Major, to their Delaware home after the dog started behaving aggressively and charging toward White House staff. The family had adopted Major from a shelter in 2018.

The Bidens reportedly feel “awful” and “heartbroken” about the incidents involving Commander.
