Barstool’s Portnoy Nets $2.7M With UConn Bet

Portnoy's $2.7M Triumph

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy is reveling in what he describes as “the greatest bet of my life,” having reportedly won a staggering $2.76 million from a $600,000 wager on the UConn Huskies to clinch the NCAA men’s basketball championship. Portnoy, a prominent figure in the sports betting world, shared his excitement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where he expressed his confidence in UConn’s victory, asserting that they would emerge victorious “100 out of 100 times.” His winning bet was placed with DraftKings, following Barstool Sports’ exclusive sports betting deal with the company in February.

The UConn Huskies’ triumph over the Purdue University Boilermakers in the championship game, with a score of 75-60, secured Portnoy’s substantial winnings. Notably, UConn had been dominating throughout the tournament, notching up wins with comfortable margins. Portnoy’s successful bet underscores the unpredictable nature of sports betting and the potential for substantial gains for those willing to take risks.

This year’s NCAA tournament saw a surge in betting activity, with Americans collectively wagering an estimated $2.72 billion on both the men’s and women’s tournaments. The championship game, in particular, garnered significant attention, with DraftKings reporting it as the most bet-on college basketball game in its history. The widespread legalization of sports betting in 38 states and Washington, D.C., contributed to the record-breaking betting activity surrounding March Madness.

Portnoy’s knack for making bold wagers and his unabashed confidence in his gambling abilities have made him a polarizing figure in the sports betting community. Despite facing criticism for his approach, Portnoy’s recent win adds to his reputation as a successful and daring bettor in the world of sports gambling.
