Sky’s ‘Glass’ TVs Slash Gaming Lag by 70% with Firmware Update

Sky Glass TV

Sky’s ‘Glass’ TVs, known for their innovative features, have struggled with high input lag for gamers since their launch. However, Sky has now announced a solution to reduce lag significantly, claiming up to a 70% improvement in rendering game graphics. This improvement will bring the input lag down to under 20ms from the current 65.4ms.

The reduction in input lag is achieved through a firmware update, improving the efficiency of the HDMI implementation. This update, part of the new Entertainment OS 1.3, will roll out in May over the internet. The update is designed to enhance the gaming experience on Sky Glass TVs, making them more competitive with other gaming monitors and TVs that offer lower input lag times.

The upcoming update will also introduce support for auto low latency mode (ALLM), allowing the TV to switch to a low-latency game mode automatically when gaming. This feature, along with the lag reduction, aims to address one of the biggest criticisms of Sky Glass TVs among gamers.

While this update addresses the input lag issue, Sky Glass TVs still have limitations, including no support for variable refresh rates or 4K graphics at 120Hz. However, with its premium build quality, Dolby Atmos sound system, and other features, the 55-inch Sky Glass remains a popular choice in the UK, and this gaming improvement is expected to make it even more appealing to a wider audience.

The reduction in input lag and the introduction of ALLM are significant steps forward for Sky Glass TVs, as they bring the TVs more in line with the performance of other gaming monitors and TVs on the market. This update is likely to be welcomed by gamers who have been waiting for Sky to address the input lag issue and could make Sky Glass TVs a more attractive option for gamers looking for a high-quality gaming experience.
