For years, designers and digital artists have relied on graphics tablets to enhance their creative workflow. These tablets, which respond to pen or stylus input, offer a more natural way to interact with digital artwork in programs like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. The evolution of graphics tablets led to the integration of screens, allowing artists to draw directly on the display, providing immediate feedback on their work.

Xencelabs, a Canadian company composed of industry veterans, including former Wacom employees, is making waves with its latest innovation, the Pen Display 16. This ultra-slim and lightweight device features a vibrant OLED 4K screen, offering exceptional color accuracy and contrast. Its natural and responsive pen performance provides a seamless experience for creative professionals in various fields, including media, entertainment, industrial, and graphic design.

The Pen Display 16 is designed with portability in mind, measuring just 12mm thick and coming with a convenient carry case for artists on the go. Its versatile stand allows for easy adjustment, providing the perfect drawing or retouching angle. The display connects to PCs, Macs, or Linux computers using a single USB-C to USB-C cable, with additional connectivity options available through the included 10-bit hub.

One of the standout features of the Pen Display 16 is its use of OLED technology, delivering crisp 4K images with natural colors and deep blacks. The anti-reflective surface enhances usability, while the display remains cool to the touch, even after extended use. The OLED display supports up to 1.07 billion colors and offers various color gamuts, including Adobe RGB, P3-DCS, sRGB, Rec 2020, and Rec 709.

The Pen Display 16 includes two pressure-sensitive pens to accommodate different ergonomic preferences. The three-button pen features a wider barrel with customizable buttons for quick access to frequently used shortcuts. The second pen, with a thinner design, offers a more pencil-like feel, with two customizable buttons and a pressure-sensitive eraser.

To further enhance productivity, the Pen Display 16 comes with Quick Keys, a handheld remote that allows users to create custom shortcuts for their software. With five customizable groups of actions, each with eight keys, artists can streamline their workflow and access commonly used functions with ease.

Xencelabs offers two versions of the Pen Display 16: the Bundle, which includes additional accessories such as the mobile easel stand, and the Essentials, a more streamlined option for those who only need the display and basic accessories. Both versions will be available for purchase from the end of May, with the Bundle priced at $1,249 / £1,199 / €1,389, and the Essentials at $999 / £969 / €1,129.

With its innovative features and commitment to usability, the Xencelabs Pen Display 16 is set to redefine the standard for digital artistry and creative expression.
