Gundam Coming to Call of Duty Season 4

"Gundam" featured in "Call of Duty" Season 4

Fans of both the Gundam series and Call of Duty are in for a treat as Season 4 of the popular game franchise will feature elements from the iconic mecha anime. The announcement, made through a series of cryptic tweets from the official Call of Duty and Gundam North America accounts, has sparked widespread excitement and speculation among the gaming community.

The teaser image shared on social media shows a shadowy outline of a Gundam towering over a building, accompanied by the tantalizing news that Gundam will be part of Season 4. However, the specifics of this crossover remain a mystery, leaving fans to wonder how the two worlds will collide.

One prevailing theory suggests that the collaboration could introduce a new map to Call of Duty, featuring a life-size Gundam model. This map could potentially recreate famous Gundam landmarks, such as the Diver City mall in Odaiba, complete with the imposing RX-78-2 Gundam standing guard outside. The inclusion of the classic red Pegasus logo further suggests a nod to the traditional Gundam lore.

Despite the excitement, questions linger about how such massive mobile suits will fit into the fast-paced, infantry-focused gameplay of Call of Duty. The scale of mobile suits, standing at approximately 18 meters tall (about 59 feet), presents a significant challenge in terms of gameplay balance and mechanics. This concern is underscored by reports of a collaboration between Shoji Kawamori, renowned for his work on mecha designs, and the Call of Duty team to create the Ashura Reaper, a reinterpretation of the Reaper concept in the game.

The Ashura Reaper represents a human-scale android designed for combat, highlighting the complexities of integrating large-scale mecha into the game’s existing framework. This suggests that while Gundam may feature in Season 4, it is unlikely that players will be able to pilot the mobile suits themselves. Instead, the collaboration may focus on a new map that pays homage to the Gundam universe while maintaining the core gameplay of Call of Duty.

The inclusion of Gundam in Call of Duty marks a significant milestone for both franchises, showcasing the enduring popularity and cultural impact of the Gundam series. This unexpected crossover is a testament to the creative vision of both teams involved and is sure to delight fans of both worlds.
