Apple TV+ teases ‘Severance’ Season 2, release date TBD

Severance

The journey to Severance Season 2 on Apple TV+ has been anything but smooth, with fans eagerly anticipating more of the hit series. After a long wait, the end is finally in sight.

Promotional material has been released for the upcoming season, offering a glimpse of what’s to come. A new photo and a brief video tease the return of Adam Scott’s character, Mark, back in the office and welcomed by Tramell Tillman’s Milchick. The most intriguing part of the teaser is Mark waking up on the table multiple times in different outfits, hinting at multiple attempts to “sever” him for reintegration purposes. The meaning behind these scenes remains a mystery, fitting for a show known for its enigmatic nature.

However, despite the excitement surrounding the new promotion, a release date for Season 2 is still missing. The season is simply billed as coming out “later this year,” which seems unusual given that we’re already in mid-June. Nevertheless, based on the promotion and production updates, it’s likely that the season will meet its 2024 release window without further delays.

If Season 2 does premiere in fall 2024, it will have been two and a half years since the debut of Season 1 in February 2022. Various factors, such as the pandemic and more recently, a writers and actors strike, contributed to the extended hiatus. While there were rumors of behind-the-scenes drama, the creators ultimately managed to bring the season to fruition. Moving forward, fans hope that such lengthy delays can be avoided, as the already wide gap between seasons of streaming shows can be exhausting for viewers.

The future of Severance beyond Season 2 remains uncertain, but given its high profile and critical acclaim, it’s likely that Apple will want to keep it in their lineup of excellent sci-fi series. The show joins the ranks of other successful Apple TV+ sci-fi series like Foundation, For All Mankind, Silo, and the more recent addition, Dark Matter, showcasing Apple’s commitment to delivering top-notch science fiction content.
