Edward Roski Jr.: A Visionary Developer and Philanthropist

Edward Roski Jr. is a titan in the world of real estate development and a prominent figure in Los Angeles’s civic and cultural life. As the chairman and president of Majestic Realty Co., Roski has built an empire that spans over 91 million square feet of industrial real estate across the United States. His influence, however, extends beyond brick and mortar; he has made significant contributions to sports, education, and philanthropy.

Born into a family of entrepreneurs, Edward Roski Jr. was raised in Los Angeles, California. His father, Edward Roski Sr., founded Majestic Realty in 1948, laying the foundation for what would become one of the nation’s most successful real estate companies. Edward Jr. inherited his father’s business acumen and commitment to excellence, but he also brought his own vision and ambition to the company, transforming it into a powerhouse in industrial and commercial real estate.

After earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California (USC), where he met his future wife, Gayle, Roski served in the United States Marine Corps. His time in the military instilled in him a sense of discipline, leadership, and resilience that would later become hallmarks of his career. Upon returning to civilian life, Roski joined the family business and began charting a course for growth and innovation.

Under Roski’s leadership, Majestic Realty has expanded its portfolio to include massive industrial parks, office complexes, and retail centers across the United States. One of the company’s most notable projects is the redevelopment of a 441-acre business park on the former site of Pennsylvania’s Bethlehem Steel plant. This ambitious project has attracted high-profile tenants such as Crayola and Walmart, breathing new life into a site that was once a symbol of American industrial might.

Roski is perhaps best known in Los Angeles for his role in developing the iconic Staples Center, now known as Crypto.com Arena. This state-of-the-art sports and entertainment venue, located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, has become a cultural landmark and a hub for major events, including concerts, award shows, and professional sports games. Roski’s involvement in the project demonstrated his ability to bring together stakeholders and create a space that benefits both the city and its residents.

In addition to his real estate ventures, Roski is a minority owner of the Los Angeles Kings (NHL) and the Los Angeles Lakers (NBA). His passion for sports and entertainment has not only enriched his business portfolio but also strengthened his connection to the community. Through these investments, Roski has helped solidify Los Angeles’s reputation as a premier destination for sports and culture.

Beyond his business accomplishments, Roski is deeply committed to philanthropy. In 2016, he and his wife, Gayle, made a $25 million gift to the University of Southern California to endow the Gayle and Edward Roski Eye Institute. This generous donation reflects the couple’s dedication to advancing medical research and improving healthcare. The Roski Eye Institute has since become a leading center for the treatment of eye diseases and vision science, benefiting countless patients and researchers alike.

Roski’s contributions to USC extend beyond healthcare. He has been a staunch supporter of the university’s arts and design programs, including the USC Roski School of Art and Design, which bears his family’s name. Through these efforts, Roski has nurtured the next generation of artists and designers, ensuring that creativity and innovation remain integral to USC’s mission.

Despite his many achievements, Roski remains grounded and dedicated to his roots. He is known for his hands-on approach to business, often visiting construction sites and engaging directly with his team. His leadership style emphasizes collaboration, integrity, and a long-term vision for success.

Roski’s legacy is one of transformation and impact. Whether through revitalizing industrial sites, creating world-class venues, or supporting education and healthcare, he has consistently demonstrated a commitment to making a positive difference. His work serves as a testament to the power of vision, perseverance, and generosity.

As he continues to shape the landscape of American real estate and contribute to the betterment of society, Edward Roski Jr. stands as an inspiring figure whose life story exemplifies the best of entrepreneurial spirit and civic responsibility.
