Curry Barker’s horror thriller Obsession has officially arrived on premium video-on-demand platforms following its remarkable success in theaters, where it has generated $371.1 million at the worldwide box office. The film, starring Inde Navarrette and Michael Johnston, was produced on a modest $750,000 budget before being acquired by Focus Features for approximately $15 million at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival.
Written and directed by Barker, Obsession follows Bear, portrayed by Johnston, a music store employee who secretly longs for his co-worker Nikki, played by Navarrette, to return his feelings. After using a mystical item known as a “One Wish Willow” to make Nikki fall deeply in love with him, Bear soon realizes his wish has taken a terrifying turn as her affection becomes a dangerous obsession that drives her to deadly extremes.
The cast also features Cooper Tomlinson, Barker’s collaborator from the That’s a Bad Idea YouTube sketches and Milk & Serial, alongside Megan Lawless and Andy Richter. Despite its small production budget, the R-rated horror film has become one of the year’s biggest box office surprises. After opening with $17.1 million domestically during the May 15–17 weekend, ticket sales continued to grow through its second and third weekends before remaining strong in the weeks that followed.
During its seventh weekend, from June 26–28, Obsession earned another $9.8 million from 2,965 theaters across North America, lifting its domestic total to $233.8 million. Combined with $137.3 million from international markets, the film’s worldwide earnings have now reached $371.1 million.
The film became available on premium video-on-demand on Tuesday, June 30, through platforms including Fandango at Home, Prime Video, and YouTube Movies & TV. It is priced at $24.99 for digital purchase, while a 48-hour rental is available for $19.99.
As Obsession continues its successful theatrical run, Barker is already in post-production on his next feature, the supernatural comedy Anything but Ghosts. The upcoming film stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Aaron Paul, Cooper Tomlinson, and Barker himself. Although it is not directly connected to Obsession, Inde Navarrette has confirmed that viewers can expect an Easter egg referencing her character Nikki.
