iPhone 18 Pro Max May Match Record as Apple’s Heaviest iPhone

Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max is rumored to feature its largest battery yet, but the increased capacity could also make it one of the company’s heaviest smartphones. According to recent leaks, the device may carry a battery of around 5,500 mAh while weighing approximately 240 grams and measuring 9 millimeters thick, potentially tying the record for the heaviest iPhone Apple has produced.

Regular leaker Ice Universe claimed on Weibo that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will include a 5,500 mAh battery, adding that the larger power cell comes with the trade-off of a 240-gram body and a thicker chassis. If accurate, the new model would outweigh the current iPhone 17 Pro Max, which weighs 233 grams.

Apple has previously released iPhones at the 240-gram mark. The iPhone 13 Pro Max, introduced in 2021, reached that weight, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max retained the distinction the following year. Apple later reduced the weight with the 221-gram iPhone 15 Pro Max after replacing stainless steel with titanium, while the current generation uses an aluminum frame.

Additional reports, including regulatory filings, indicate the iPhone 18 Pro Max could feature a 5,567 mAh battery in the United States and a slightly smaller 5,391 mAh version in China, where space is occupied by a physical SIM card tray. Both versions would represent an increase over the battery capacity of the current model.

Despite the larger battery, users should not automatically expect longer battery life. The added capacity is widely believed to support Apple’s expanding Apple Intelligence features, including Siri AI, which are expected to require additional power. Apple has often used larger batteries to maintain existing battery performance while introducing more demanding software features rather than significantly extending usage time between charges.

Rumors also suggest the iPhone 18 Pro Max will have a thicker design to accommodate the larger battery. Combined with a protective case, the larger dimensions could make the device noticeably bulkier in everyday use.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max may not keep its weight record for long. Reports indicate Apple could unveil its first foldable iPhone, possibly called the iPhone Ultra, alongside the new flagship, and that device could be even heavier.
