Google appears to be preparing another addition to its smart home lineup, with newly discovered app code suggesting a long-rumored Home Display could include integrated Nest Cam capabilities.
Recent findings uncovered by Android Authority within the latest version of the Google Home app point to an unreleased smart display equipped with a built-in camera. The references indicate the device could combine smart home controls with home security functions, bringing back a feature previously offered by the discontinued Nest Hub Max.
According to the discovered code, the upcoming Home Display may support event recording, allowing users to monitor activity inside their homes directly from the device. The software references also suggest that users would receive up to three hours of event history at no cost, while a Google Home Premium subscription could expand storage to 60 days of event history along with up to 10 days of continuous 24/7 recording.
The leaked information further indicates that the display will include a microphone capable of handling voice commands in addition to detecting sounds and logging audio-based events. These features closely resemble the capabilities already available on Google’s existing Nest Cam security devices.
The code also references an option to disable recording. If recording is turned off, users would still be able to access a live camera feed, although no video footage would be saved.
While software discoveries do not guarantee every feature will appear in the final product, the newly uncovered references provide the strongest indication so far of Google’s plans for its next smart display. However, important hardware details, including camera resolution, viewing angle and other specifications, remain unknown, and Google has not officially confirmed the device.
