Trump Shares AI Videos Suggesting U.S. Attack On Kharg Island

President Donald Trump shared two AI-generated videos on social media appearing to show a devastating aerial assault on an Iranian oil facility, while suggesting that Kharg Island was being destroyed. The posts came Sunday night as the U.S. military resumed major strikes against Iranian forces, including attacks on rocket-related targets near the Strait of Hormuz.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Kharg Island being blown to smithereens!!!” The accompanying AI-generated footage depicts an airman looking through an aircraft window as explosions erupt across an oil facility. Flames and blasts appear to engulf an oil storage tank, a tanker at a dock and several other structures.

Trump later shared a second AI-generated video showing missiles striking a sprawling coastal oil complex and producing a series of large explosions. It remains unclear whether the videos were produced by Trump’s team or reposted from accounts belonging to his followers.

The posts appeared as the U.S. military carried out significant strikes against Iranian forces for the first time this month. However, there have been no reports confirming that Kharg Island itself was targeted in the operation.

U.S. Central Command said it had carried out “limited, precise action” against the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ “minelaying forces,” describing them as an imminent threat to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM said the operation was intended to eliminate the threat while protecting civilian mariners, commercial vessels and the continued movement of global commerce.

Iranian state media reported explosions near Larak Island, which lies close to the Strait of Hormuz, and the IRGC acknowledged multiple casualties. Kharg Island, however, is located much farther inside the Persian Gulf, more than 400 miles northwest of the Strait. The difference between the two locations has raised the possibility that Trump’s post may have confused Larak Island with Kharg Island, although the source article does not establish that this occurred.

The IRGC separately said it retaliated for the U.S. strikes by launching ballistic missiles toward two American bases in Jordan. Jordan’s military said Monday that its air defenses intercepted eight missiles that entered Jordanian airspace. The post drew criticism from several groups, including prominent Republicans, before Trump deleted it. Days later, he posted another AI-generated image depicting himself being embraced by Jesus in front of an American flag.

Trump has also shared AI-generated images portraying himself and members of his Cabinet swimming in the renovated Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, while suggesting the waterway had effectively been a sewer under Democratic administrations. During another burst of AI-generated posts late last month, he shared imagery depicting Kharg Island under bombardment, Iranian oil tankers being captured by U.S. forces and Trump himself. Other images showed Trump alongside John F. Kennedy and portrayed him as “saving” George Washington.

Kharg Island is strategically important to Iran because roughly 90% of the country’s oil exports are processed there. The island sits in the northern Persian Gulf and is home to nearly 20,000 people, most of them oil workers. It also contains three major energy infrastructure hubs. Trump has previously threatened to seize or destroy Kharg Island, but no comparable large-scale attack on the island has been launched so far.
