Samsung Rolls Out August Security Update to Galaxy S24 and S26

Samsung has begun rolling out its August 2026 security update to more Galaxy smartphones, but the delayed release means millions of owners are receiving critical patches only at the very end of the month.

The August update is now reaching the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra, according to SamMobile. The rollout may take until later today or the next few days to reach individual devices. Samsung’s update schedule has been particularly slow this month, leaving some Galaxy S24 owners waiting for important security fixes.

The Galaxy S26 lineup has also started receiving the August 2026 update. SammyFans reported on Aug. 30 that the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra began getting the software in South Korea, with availability expected to expand to additional countries in the following hours and days.

Samsung’s August security release contains fixes from both Google and Samsung, including eight vulnerabilities classified as critical. The late rollout comes as recent Android zero-day vulnerabilities have increased concerns about the importance of receiving security patches promptly.

Samsung’s update process continues to vary by device, market and timing, unlike the more predictable update schedules associated with Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Pixel devices. The company’s August delays mean that some Galaxy owners are only receiving the latest security protections as the month comes to a close.

Galaxy owners can manually check whether the update is available by opening the Settings app, selecting Software update and tapping Check for updates. Samsung advises that the phone should have at least 30% battery charge before proceeding with the update.

The August release is currently rolling out to Galaxy S26 devices running the stable version of One UI 8.5. Users participating in the One UI 9 beta are in a different position, as they have already received the relevant update. With September approaching, Galaxy users will now be watching to see whether Samsung can return to a faster security-update schedule or whether the August delay affects releases in the weeks ahead.
