BMW’s all-electric iX3 has quickly established itself as one of the standout EVs in Europe since its launch in March 2026, earning multiple awards, including the World Car of the Year title. Available in three trims—the standard iX3, M Sport, and M Sport Pro—the electric SUV starts at £53,250 and comes equipped with 20-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a powered tailgate, wireless smartphone charging, heated front seats, ambient lighting, BMW’s Panoramic iDrive system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, 11kW AC charging, vehicle-to-load functionality, and a comprehensive suite of safety technologies.
Higher trims add sportier styling, larger wheels, adaptive matrix LED headlights, an illuminated kidney grille, a Harman Kardon audio system, and upgraded interior features. The reviewed iX3 50 xDrive M Sport included optional equipment worth £4,550, such as a heated steering wheel, BMW Iconic Glow lighting, a head-up display, and an enhanced sound system, bringing its total price to £65,562.
BMW offers two battery options for the iX3. The iX3 50 xDrive features a 108kWh battery with a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 500 miles, while the iX3 40 uses an 82.6kWh battery capable of delivering between 360 and 395 miles. During testing, the iX3 40 displayed a full-charge range estimate of 343 miles. DC fast charging supports up to 300kW on the iX3 40 and 400kW on the iX3 50, allowing both versions to recharge from 10% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes. Home charging is handled through an 11kW onboard charger, although most UK homes are limited to 7.4kW single-phase charging. Charging from 33% to full using an Easee One wallbox took around five hours, while a mixed 122-mile drive returned an efficiency of 3.4 miles per kWh.
Inside, the iX3 introduces BMW’s Panoramic iDrive system, a slim display stretching across the dashboard beneath the windshield that presents key driving information while offering customizable display areas. Physical controls remain for essential functions such as the parking brake, hazard lights, and audio volume, while the touchscreen includes quick-access shortcuts for climate and media controls. The cabin offers supportive seating, generous rear passenger space, a practical luggage compartment, and an additional storage area beneath the front hood for charging cables.
On the road, the iX3 50 xDrive delivers 469 horsepower through an all-wheel-drive system, reaching 62 mph in under five seconds before topping out at an electronically limited 130 mph. Acceleration is smooth and progressive rather than abrupt, while the steering provides precise feedback and the suspension effectively absorbs potholes and uneven road surfaces. Although the exterior styling may divide opinions, the design proved more appealing over time during extended driving.
Overall, the BMW iX3 delivers a compelling package in the premium electric SUV segment, combining impressive range, rapid charging, advanced technology, strong performance, and a refined interior. Despite its premium price, the vehicle offers a level of quality and driving dynamics that places it among the leading electric SUVs currently available.
