Apple’s expected September launch event for the iPhone 18 Pro could take place slightly earlier than previously anticipated, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. While the long-standing expectation has been for a Wednesday, Sept. 9 keynote, Gurman now believes Apple is more likely to unveil its next-generation devices on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
The upcoming event is expected to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and Apple’s first foldable iPhone, which is widely rumored to be called the iPhone Ultra. Apple Intelligence is also expected to be one of the major highlights of the new lineup.
In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman noted that Apple’s September iPhone events generally follow a familiar pattern. They are typically scheduled on the first Tuesday or Wednesday after Labor Day, allowing the company to begin sales by mid-September, capture additional fourth-quarter revenue and ensure sufficient inventory ahead of the holiday shopping season.
Although the keynote date shifts from year to year, Apple’s launch events have not been held earlier than Sept. 7 during the past decade. This year, Labor Day falls on Monday, Sept. 7, the latest possible date for the holiday, making the following week the expected window for Apple’s annual product announcement.
Gurman wrote that “Apple’s September iPhone events tend to follow a familiar playbook” and concluded that Sept. 8 is the most likely date for the launch event, with Sept. 9 as the second most probable option.
However, not everyone agrees with that prediction. Some believe Apple is unlikely to hold a major keynote immediately after a public holiday because the company traditionally flies media representatives from across the United States and other countries to attend the event. For that reason, Wednesday, Sept. 9 is viewed as a more practical date, even though both predictions place the event during the same week.
Despite the debate over the keynote date, the expected retail launch timeline remains unchanged. Apple has historically released new iPhones on the Friday following the announcement event, which would place the expected on-sale date for the iPhone 18 Pro on Sept. 18.
